Hospital's decision to send quadriplegic man back to Mexico angers those in Chicago who cared for him. For almost four months, doctors and nurses at Advocate Christ Medical Center cared for the young Mexican laborer who had fallen from a roof and lost the ability to speak, breathe or move most parts of his body.

But Quelino Ojeda Jimenez was in the U.S. illegally, and just before Christmas he was taken from the Oak Lawn hospital, loaded on an air ambulance and flown to Oaxaca, capital of the Mexican state where he was born.

His abrupt departure, which Ojeda says was undertaken without his consent, outraged a group of Mexicans living in Chicago who had rallied to his aid, tending to him in the hospital and encouraging him not to give up.

Florinda Marcial, one of his frequent caregivers, said she pleaded with authorities to stop as Ojeda was rolled away on a gurney, dressed in a hospital gown, crying. Authorities at the Mexican Consulate in Chicago also said they tried to intervene.

"They threw him out like he was a piece of garbage," said Horacio Esparza, a disability rights advocate who runs the Progress Center for Independent Living in Forest Park.

I think the taxpayers have paid enough for his care and Mexico can now come forward and put all their speeches about human rights direct them to this citizen of Mexico. Note how much has been paid->Advocate Christ spent about $650,000 on Ojeda's medical care and another $60,000 to transport him to Mexico after several private long-term care facilities refused to take the young man as a patient, Golson said.

Instances like this is where the employee’s feet need to be held over the fire. Imperial Roofing passed the buck and responsibility as he was working for a subcontractor. Laws need to be enforced or passed if not in existence to stop the buck being passed.

When I had my roof replaced, I insisted, “no illegals and bonding with insurance to be seen”. I paid more than my neighbors who paid less and had crews on their roof who did not speak English.

At the Bayfront Hospital in St Petersbury Florida there is a quadripalegic illegal alien mexican who has been under care for more than 300 days.

Florida needs to get some backbone and ship this similar person back to Mexico.

My friend is a nurse at this hospital and told me about the case just a few days ago.

Buried in this sob-sister article is the fact that Ojeda's condition was stable and he was ready to be discharged from the acute care hospital, to a long-term or rehab facility.

This is ALWAYS done -- think Gabby Giffords. You don't stay in an acute-care hospital forever.

So he had to be transferred somewhere. If Mexicans are so upset about the state of medical care in their country, then they should do something about it THERE.

On February 3rd, 2011 —
The Mexican ambassador to the United States, Arturo Sarukhan, recently did an interview with the Atlanta Journal Constitution, during which, he criticized American lawmakers around the country who have proposed crackdowns on illegal immigration which he says is “poisoning” relations between the United States and Mexico.

Sarukhan specifically lashed out at Georgia’s HB87 which, if passed, would require state and local law enforcement to investigate the immigration status of suspects they have reason to believe are in the country illegally.

Sarukhan said: “We are concerned that some of this local or state legislation could lead down a slippery slope of racial profiling.”

However, under Mexican law, local police must cooperate with federal immigration authorities and report the arrests of illegal aliens.

Also, illegal immigration is a felony in Mexico, punishable by two years in prison. Anyone caught in Mexico after being deported once, can be sent to prison for 10 years.

Of course, hypocrisy from Mexico on the issue of illegal immigration is nothing new, but one statement uttered by Sarukhan was particularly egregious, and the ambassador knows better.

Sarukhan claimed: “For someone who profoundly disagrees with the urban myth that they are coming here to ‘drop babies’ and take and abuse health and education services, those numbers reflect one powerful truth — immigrants come in search of a job. If there are not jobs to be had, they don’t come. Period.”

he says it is a myth that they are coming here to ‘drop babies’ and take and abuse health — Advocate Christ spent about $650,000 on Ojeda’s medical care and another $60,000 ) And Mexico did not even want him back..Authorities at the Mexican Consulate in Chicago also said they tried to intervene....
