Death in the Desert: Project Gunwalker and the ATF Cover-Up

On December 14, 2010, a firefight erupted in the Arizona desert. When the smoke had cleared, Customs and Border Protection Agent Brian Terry was dead, and the seeds of a scandal had been sown. Some of the rank and file of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE), often referred to as the ATF, began to grow concerned that a new development in Project Gunrunner probably had resulted in the death of Agent Terry.

It's long past time to completely de-fund any 'enforcement' activities of the ATF. Let them put tax stamps on whiskey bottles and cigarette packs and nothing else.

And whoever approved this little operation needs to not only be fired but prosecuted. Any Federally licensed gun dealer would be looking at a decade or so for this.

While I would have in the past agreed with you I cant now. The ATF is so F Troop they’d screw up affixing stamps. They need to be completely disbanded and disallowed from being hired to any public service post. In fact all employees save for office help should be meticulously investigated and prosecuted if necessary. Worthless is a mild description of the ATF.

The stench of the Obama administration is starting to fill the government air. I remember when “Congressionals” were top priority and nobody disregarded it. Now, nobody in any position of authority seems to give a rip about observing the law, even Federal judge’s decisions. Where is the honor in anyone anymore?

I've thought about it, and you're right. Disband the entire Agency. Refer for prosecution all of the Senior managers.

Then come up with a drastically smaller Agency authorized to collect Constitutionally authorized excise taxes.

Why do we even have excise taxes on booze and cigarettes? In the case of booze, it dates back to the Whiskey Rebellion. It's time to get rid of both those excise taxes. That would eliminate two letters of BATFE.

LOL, that didn’t take long. :) I would just add they’d also be disallowed from having guns.

Why do we even have excise taxes on booze and cigarettes?

Prior to passage of the 16th Amendment it was the only Constitutional way to fund the Federal Government. That's why.

‘Why do we even have excise taxes on booze and cigarettes?’

There ya go asking intelligent questions. I see you won’t go far. ;) Let me take a stab at it: The ATF is w/ us b/c Congress was in a stealing mood. So, I suspect the ATF will remain w/ us until Congress can control its greed for our wealth and regain its respect and deference for those it supposedly represents. Think of the ATF as a sort Swiss Army knife agency. That is they combine all of the basic elements a corrupt govt needs to keep its sheep (The Masses) under control. I think this aspect of one stop shopping will make it hard for the pols to give up.

It is so true. Evil doesn’t need encouragement to spread. Obama’s regime has brought out of the woodwork those who have been in hiding.

Screw your senator and the senate...the pubs have control of the house...if your elected representatives in the house do not have the cajones to investigte, call hearings, and defund, then the senate will not do crap......I am saying right now, for the record, that the new tea party people in the house will do little to nothing to save the republic...if they had the cajones and the will to use them, the atf would be in front of house committes right now, and they would be immediately defunded...but, alas, that will never happen, because they are the same as the rino’s....me first, and the hell with everyone else...I am now officially begging, no, pleading with someone, anyone, to prove me wrong...( and damnit, I want to be proven wrong )
