NUEVO LAREDO The city's newest police chief was killed late Wednesday night when unknown assailants blocked off a downtown street shortly after he had left police headquarters and machine-gunned his vehicle.
Manuel Farfan Carriola, a retired Mexican Army general, had been outspoken about fighting crime in his city, especially drug traffickers who are fighting for control of lucrative illegal trading routes. He was named to the position when the new mayor, Benjamin Galvan Gomez, took office on Jan. 1.
Farfan Carriola was usually accompanied by several bodyguards and a personal assistant. Early reports indicated that some of those men may also have died in the attack but that could not be confirmed this morning.
An emergency Nuevo Laredo City Council meeting has been called, and a city spokesman said state officials were on their way to the border city to directly handle the investigation into the assassination. The spokesman deferred all comment to the state officials, who were en route and unavailable for immediate comment.
This is not the first time Nuevo Laredo has suffered such an attack. In June 2005, Alejandro Domínguez Coello was killed the same day he was named chief of police in the midst of a violent struggle among drug traffickers for control of Nuevo Laredo.
Same sh!t different day on Nuevo Grenadeo.
I remember walking across the bridge from Laredo to Nuevo Laredo without a care in the world. Pobre Mexico.
Drug traffickers helping drug users.
Wasn’t this one the college girl?
Without the stupid drug war none of this would be happening.
Mexico’s drug gang problem requires a full military response, complete with close air support, attack helicopters, armored vehicles, and artillery.
Drug runners and gang leaders should be declared as non-uniformed combattants and summarily executed by military firing squad, after extracting as much intelligence as possible, of coure.

RE: Bodyguards — I think it was Jeff Cooper who trained the bodyguards of a head of state for some third-world country. When he was done, he told the head of state that some of his men were now as good or better than the men protecting the President of the United States. Then he added, “But I don’t know who they are. I hope you do.”
This article is about the lady police chiefs in Mexico. I think Valles Garcia is the one you asked about.

Now there is a daunting task; Hard to extract from a limited resource.
Easy to gloat and stare at this but everyone is going to be feeling the repercussions of this particular nightmare.I think every police officer trying to stop this, every man going into that line of fire deserves respect.
So much idealism won’t stop these Butchers and their men, cold hard men ready to commit to overhauling the way this drug war is being fought;might yet change the things work themselves out.
Otherwise this crap will migrate north,it will be not that funny when it hits Los Angeles and San Diego;even less so when it spreads all the way up to Oregon.
