Not to defend fornication, but I'm curious what age they defined for "girls" in this study (the link that you provided was an abstract, and I couldn't find the details).
That is, I often read statistics about many "children" that are killed by gunfire in America - which leads the audience to believe that many little children are getting killed by unsecured guns in the household. In actuality, "children" are defined as anyone less than 21 years old (or maybe it was 18), and these "children" are gang bangers involved in shootouts with other gangs.

I tend to believe 'genuine' pedophilia is primarily homosexual men preying on little boys. If the NCBI is including women less than 21 years old engaging in consensual sexual relations with men who are not their husbands - I agree its wrong, but I wouldn't classify the male offenders as pedophiles. Undisciplined and not fearing God (i.e., "fools") - but not pedophiles.

In this case it was criminally prosecutable sex with a minor I believe. Most “pedo” are actualy “erebo” or whatever, sex with a pubescent female or male, in Priest abuse cases and elsewhere, those attracted to prepubescent children are a subset of this, and almost all are male, and they usually abuse girls.

And the statistics hold in reported abuse, and reports of abuse. I read one statistic that one in four women report a sexual abuse in the past, while less than ten percent of men do.

Girls are much more likely to be sexually abused than boys. Almost all abusers are men.

So really, girls should beware of potential heterosexual abusers - and boys should beware of potential homosexual abusers. Sexual abuse of children by women is so rare in comparison that we hear about it disproportionately because it is a “man bites dog” story.

The offender population that victimized girls vs boys is 20:1.

They actually tested to see if they got hard at pictures of children to find “true pedophiles”. Yuck.

And the victims of most sexual abuse are - as always - women.

I'm still skeptical about the statistics. I have no doubt that grown men are the offenders - but I'm surprised that young girls are the predominant prey vs. young boys.
I'm using the Roman Catholic church as my metric. Obviously some pedophiles infiltrated their ranks - but they only seemed to prey on boys (and very rarely girls). My conclusion was that pedophiles were therefore predominantly homosexuals.
But I concede that the Roman Catholic church might not have been a typical 'sample' of the pedophile world (which would probably require sampling the sewers of the world). Perhaps the homosexual pedophiles were attracted to the nifty gowns the Roman priests got to wear.
Nonetheless, I'm surprised on what you reported (even accounting that ~1% of the population is homosexual).

Your metric is a rather small subset of all offenders. And in that case was predominantly men with teenage boys not children. Not that this excuses the abuse of trust and betrayal of vows.
