As the LDS say: "When the emergency is upon you the time for preparedness has past."

Yes, but few ordinary people in third world countries can afford the luxury of preparedness, either in terms of cost or storage space and suitable packaging. Especially difficult in hot and sometimes humid climates.

Relative to the alternatives, plane tickets are cheap.

Rule 1 of survival: when SHTF, don’t be there.
Living in a desert or below sea level is a timely clue.

Indeed, hard to build up a reserve for a ‘rainy day’ when you are not getting enough to eat day to day.

If most Egyptians had a good supply of canned food ten years ago, today they might have an extra surviving child, or a little more meat on their bones - but almost certainly they wouldn’t have the canned goods.
