On Saturday, three Mexican nationals accused of murdering a 15-year-old Tucson girl turned themselves in to Customs and Border Protection agents at a checkpoint along the Arizona border. Orel Vasquez, 20, Christian Vasquez, 26, and Juan Leon, 29 are all now in federal custody.
On August 5, 2009, the victim, Brenda Arenas, was shot to death during an attempted carjacking while She was traveling with her family.
Arenas was taken to University Medical Center where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The girl actually died as her mother cradled her.
According to Tucson police, the three illegal aliens carried out a home-invasion robbery, only minutes earlier.
Shortly after Arenas was killed, the Tucson Police Department issued the following statement: “Detectives have learned that at least six Hispanic males armed with weapons and dressed in dark clothing entered a residence demanding drugs and money. The armed intruders left the residence and confronted (Brenda) Arenas, who was driving by with her family. A shot was fired into the vehicle fatally striking Arenas. The uninjured home invasion victims stated the suspects fled in a gray SUV, possibly a Dodge Durango. There is no evidence to indicate the victims of the home invasion were involved in any criminal activity.”

Arenas was shot in the head during a botched carjacking and died in her mother's arms.
