Carol Browner Goes, Draconian Policies Stay

White House: With cap-and-trade seemingly dead and EPA's regulatory authority under attack, the administration's climate czar is abandoning ship. Too bad she's not taking the administration's energy policies with her.

Carol Browner, former EPA director now serving as a senior Obama adviser for energy and climate change, a formerly nonexistent position created to avoid Senate confirmation to a real position, has decided to hang it up. Or she's been thrown under the bus, depending on your point of view.

As a "czar," she was a prime mover for climate change and the administration's war on carbon. But when cap-and-trade legislation barely made it through the House and died in the Senate, buried under the Nov. 2 GOP avalanche, her role and her influence seemed to be on the wane.

"I think there are a lot of Republicans that ran against the energy bill that passed in the House last year, and so it's doubtful that you could get the votes to pass that through the House this year or next year or the year after," President Obama told a post-election press conference. Shortly thereafter the administration began its attempt to pursue cap-and-trade through regulation.

Browner's departure was announced barely 24 hours before a State of the Union address in which President Obama once again touted "investment" in clean energy in anticipation of an assault from Hill Republicans on the EPA's power grab in regulating greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide, even to the point of usurping the authority of states such as Texas

I agree with Gingrich, do away with the agency altogether.

The EPA is not being used to protect the environment, it's being used as a political bludgeon to kill not only our energy production but other industry and business here in the US.

Rush Limbaugh (1/25/11) suggested that Browner is running from an Issa interrogation:

"Carol Browner, I don't know if you've heard this or not, ladies and gentlemen, but the energy czar (not cabinet level figure), Carol Browner, is leaving. She's out as Obama's climate czar. It's an AP story, and they're very stressed about this. "President Obama's top advisor on energy..." how is the planet, folks, going to survive this? Did Browner not take this into account? Could she be so selfish as to leave with the planet threatened as never before? The planet's in great peril, and she just walks away?

"President Obama's top advisor on energy and climate matters is stepping down, two White House officials confirmed Monday. Carol Browner's departure underscores that there will be no major White House push on climate change, given that such efforts have little chance of succeeding in Congress." Well, what she was doing had nothing to do with Capitol Hill. She was a czar. Czars don't have to deal with the Constitution. Czars never have to get confirmed. We don't know what they make.

You know why she was appointed energy czar rather than to the cabinet? I'll tell you exactly why: So she would have to avoid having to testify in any confirmation hearings. She couldn't have gotten confirmed, she's that radical, and now she's running for the exit to keep from having to testify before any Republican controlled House oversight committees. She's running away from Darrell Issa here. So what does she have to hide? She cares more about herself than the planet. She is running out to protect herself while the planet is in peril as it never has been before. And this is the regime that promised to be completely transparent, which maybe this qualifies. This is pretty transparent, what she's doing"

Stephen Moore, senior economics writer at the Wall Street Journal where he is also editorial board member, on Hannity's Great American Panel discussion of Obama's Czars on 9/18/11, pointed out that Browner, as late as December 2008, was listed as a director of Socialist International, whose website proclaims that they support a New World Order, a more equitable international economic order, to replace the current concentration of power in a few economic powers (i.e., redistribution of wealth), as well as advocating that rich countries should shrink their economies to address climate change.

Thanx for the ping, Army Air Corps !
