HOUSTON She inspired the nation with her fairy-tale recovery. Now Rep. Gabrielle Giffords must inspire herself through the ordeal of rehabilitation, and doctors say it's likely to be the hardest work she'll ever do.
Just a couple of decades ago, rehab was little more than physical therapy for shuffling stroke victims and wheelchair-bound quadriplegics, a last resort after doctors had done all they could.
A patient having trouble speaking as doctors suspect Giffords might could be given a Ouija board and asked to form words on it.

The person quoted at the end of the article is a very hopeful example. Ouija boards are dangerous though. No one should be fooling with them.
I was unaware that she had recovered.
Godspeed to her
Give her a keyboard, geez this ain’t the 19th century.
Some nice comments from Michelle Bachman about her friendship with Giffords tonight on BOR. Despite being opposites on many political issues, it’s nice to see respect can be maintained at the personal level.
Weegee board?!?
Crap. She’s screwed if she starts messing around with demonic tools there..don’t these hospitals have like REAL keyboards that could be used?
Seriesly? A weegee (I know it’s spelled wrong) board?!?
The more articles come out, the more it sounds like she is MUCH worse (I mean, seriously brain damaged, like Terri Schiavo?) than we continue to be led to believe...
It would not shock me if Obama announces she has spoken her first words since the tragedy, at the SOTU tomorrow.
Indeed. The computer has been life changing to people I now that are physically challenged.
Ouija board? I think we call it a mouse now.
Or a joystick.
big difference: a mouse doesn’t conjure up demon spirits.
I think the idiot that wrote the article is using liberal prose.
I Guarantee they arent using ouiji boards.
Damn, can’t they give her an iPad or something?
Jared Laughner summoned up demon spirits,
not these Doctors.
Obama will give us the full skinny tomorrow night.
I’ll second that! Still get chills thinking about the one time I used one with my brother. There are things out there you don’t want to talk to.
I was reading about James Brady the other day. He’s still improving thirty years later. A bullet going through the brain is very damaging. Not only is there the obvious physical destruction, but a shockwave travels through all parts of the brain. It’s remarkable how well the brain recovers, but it can take a very long time and a whole lot of work.
No kidding ... several days ago she was supposedly using an iPhone or iPad, and now she’s going to revert to a Ouija board?
hardly anything you read or watch in the media is true... they just make crap up.
It's a BOARD for pete's sake. A board with a plastic doohickey sliding around on it.
That’s odd. Why not a Scrabble board?
