Get me a sample of one alien, then we’ll talk.

DemForBush mentioned the possibility that aliens would have likely evolved from conditions that would be too hostile for the likes of us. If so, then Earth would almost certainly be too hostile for them.

Wouln't that be funny - if there were intelligent alien species who gave this planet a wide berth because they couldn't use anything on it. That would knock a lot of science fiction right into the "science fantasy" category.

I’m oddly reminded of Space Quest 5, where one of the ways you can die is from screwing around in a rescue pod, and running out of gas.

The death scene is inspired as you are treated to two alien lovers gazing on the heavens and making a wish on the shooting star that you produce as you are incinerated in the atmosphere.

The lover wishes that they would find another being in the heavens, and the other lover says, that it’s silly because everyone knows there’s no intelligent life out there.
