(ORANGE BEACH, Ala.) - Folks on the Gulf Coast gave the man in charge of doling out compensation claims a piece of their minds during oil spill town hall meetings Tuesday.
Kenneth Feinberg quickly found out what he probably already knows: there is no shortage of frustration among business owners and fishermen.
"Why don't you go to all these deck hands, waitresses and other people who got their money and left town. We the business people have no employees to hire," one claimant complained.
The crowd was polite but skeptical. Feinberg was accused of everything from holding back on claims money to ignoring those who need the money the most.
"He's been here four times, and it has been the same thing every time," claimant Angela Kent said. "We want to see something. We don't want to hear it."
Feinberg did his best to assure people their money is coming. He says all final payment checks will go out in February, and local officials will get a clear explanation of how those payments are calculated.
