SOUTH BEND — The man accused of beating his roommate to death and throwing his body in the St. Joseph River in May appeared in court today, and a trial date has been set for April 25.
Elex Baltazar's attorney requested a continuance for the trial, originally scheduled for Jan. 31. The attorney said he needed more time for DNA testing.
Baltazar, an illegal immigrant, is being held at the St. Joseph County Jail, facing one count of murder.
His roommate, Miguel Rivera, was found dead, floating in the St. Joseph River on May 27
