nccitizen123 1/15/11 9:40 AM EST I live in Old New Castle and can certainly understand the frustration Mr. Wheeler felt. I attended one of the "public" historic commission meetings regarding the Marini property. Alot of us in town attened because we wanted answers as to why the historic building was allowed to be torn down (there was no permit in place for it's destruction) and why the new house was allowed to be almost 3 times the footprint of the original historic home. Well, the commission conveniently stepped around these issues and instead had the Marini architect go on with his list of materials to be used on the house. When a few of the locals tried to ask about the illegal destruction and excessive new footprint, they were told in so many words to shut up or wait outside if they couldn't...so much for it being a "public" meeting. It's as if the Commission was intimidated by the Marini bunch - I guess they had every right to be! P.S. The height of this house is so threatening - rumors have it that the Marini's have referred to it as a "Bed and Breakfast"...so much for her respecting the town that she supposedly wanted to build a home in and return to...
I think the commission is dirty along with the mayor and the owners. Something stinks, including the hit piece written up in Newsweek on Wheeler. Why does the victim wind up looking like the bad guy? They never name the people who are saying what they report, calling them “friends and long-time associates”
There is no way this was a random briefcase/wallet theft, including Mr Wheeler apparently winding up on the ground which his dirty clothes give away, then another random altercation a day later with him winding up dead. I don’t buy it.
No need to defend the headline -- there are several pieces of information in this article (and in comments posted below it) that are new to me...
... the fact that Wheeler was still so upset about the destruction/construction committed by the Marinis, that he wrote and sent the email to friends around Christmas
... the fact that the Marinis cut down trees and demolished a historic house without a demolition permit
... the rumor that that Marinis might be planning to use the new structure as a bed & breakfast business
... the neighbors' concerns over possible secret plans to widen their street
... the report that the mayor was having to defend himself against charges of an improper relationship with Mrs. Marini
There was a huge mega mega mansion on a hill in I think Watsonville CA...
anyway...someone piped the gas line into the house from the end remote from the kitchen,,,
and with the gas stove on....
the house exploded into small splinterss...
it was postulated that the owner wanted the insurance money.
Bingo, I completely agree.
The articles by Gordon Duff are bothersome, too. He may or may not care about veterans, I don't know, but he's got some wacky conspiracy ideas that target Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Bush.
I hate those Cheney conspiracy theories.
Duff is a puzzle, he portends to fight for veterans but yet pushes the demons article.
This situation all seems to point to that monstrosity of a house unfortunately - I certainly hope they find who killed him.
I’m disappointed in Fox News for dropping the ball on this!!
There’s a long thread somewhere on FR and I read about it there.
This is the first I've read that Frank Marini's company was involved in the construction project.
I wish I knew the name of the company and some more info on it.
How does this take into account him wandering around confused?
Hopefully Fox News will get back on the story, Eric Shawn was doing some good reporting!
Maybe he was drugged.
Compare the progress on this house with the pictures of the ten dumpster sites. At least one is in about the same stage of construction.
Workboot print in his house???
Individual might have seen him leave and even where he stashed the key we all seem to have. Truck at dumster site would not be unusual if he worked there too.
Wish we knew if the two locations had the same Contractor/construction companies working for them....
OTOH a trucking company delivering sand, gravel, cement could easily deliver to each site. ;~)
Which man, Wheeler?
The house was not supposed to be built there; the scum mayor and scum Marini or whatever their names were took park that was not zoned to be built on.
Wheeler had every right to be upset.
So any mafia connected mayor and “give” part of an historic park to his pals to build their houses on? That’s okay with you?
It was built from I’ve read in part of an historic park. Not good.
The Marini house is definitely in the park...
Is there anywhere a photo of the demolished historical house?
CHeck with National Historic Registry.
Family member has their house registered. Picture is part of it. They can’t do even the slightest modification without meeting the guidelines (approved paint colors etc) or submitting a request.
Can we find out anymore information on Stefano G. Saienni? Is he out on bail? Get probation? Does his still drive a truck? Is he part of the “hauling” business?
Eric Shawn is a damned good reporter.
