Democrat Diversion Strategy Succeeds Again
The American Thinker ^ | January 15, 2011 | Steve McCann

The Democrats and the Left have once again succeeded in their most well worn, time tested and effective tactic: diversion. For the past six days the country has been watching the spectacle of the Republicans and those on the right defending themselves from absurd and trumped up accusations.

This strategy has been so successful over the years that the Left and their allies in the media are now so emboldened that they will literally create any accusation out of whole cloth in the assumption that the Republicans in Congress and on the national stage, as they have in the past, will cower in a corner and pledge their undying fealty to "civility." Once they have done so, the Democrats and their allies will have the upper hand.

While this circus has been on the front pages, the need for this diversion becomes self-evident. The news and future prospects for the country and the world economy continue to worsen.

Global food prices have reached a nominal all-time high, surpassing the previous peak seen in 2007-08, when food riots rocked the poorer countries of the world. The consensus is that due to weather, demand and smaller inventories, the prices of the basic food commodities will surge even further. The cost of a barrel of Brent crude oil is approaching $100.00 and some estimates indicate it may hit as much as $120.00. All the futures prices of metals and other commodities vital to manufacturing are also nearing or exceeding all time highs.

For a group that fears ‘Witch hunts’, they go to extremes that would make the town fathers of old Salem blush. During the last election cycle, they even had Christine O’Donnell explain that she wasn’t a witch, rather than pressing her agenda.

When people start lamenting the Arizona shooting, I remind them that there are about 37 people murdered in America every day and another 950 people assaulted with deadly weapons by someone who was trying to murder them. Perspective has a way of rediverting their attention back to the real issues. The non-stop media blitz is making them far too maleable.

They can only divert attention from rising prices for a short time. All they have succeeded in doing is delaying, once again, doing something constructive about it.

Here is where we are going to find out if the Stupid Party wants to remain the Stupid Party because no matter how many diversion games the RATS and their media allies play, none of these things is hidden from the public. Every time we go to the supermarket or the gas station, we get slammed in the face with the objects of their diversions. I don't need a media story to tell me that gas is over $3.25 a gallon or that my food dollar is bringing home fewer bags.

What I do need is for the guys who are supposed to be on my side of the aisle to be forceful in pointing out the mess created by the RATS and their media allies instead of hiding under their desks and allowing themselves to be blamed for everything now that they control just one house of Congress. Just walk out there and connect the dots of increased regulation and higher gas prices, increased regulation and higher food prices, and so on and so forth.

And for the record, the RINOs have been on the defensive over the past week; conservatives have been on the offensive taking the fight to the RATS and their media allies. Rush, Levin, Beck, and Sarah Palin haven't been saying, "Oh wait, please let me explain what I meant by that," but instead have been saying, "You're not pinning that crap on us, but we're pinning that and a whole lot more on you. And we're not going to stop no matter how many times and way you try to do it."

The Democrats and the Left have once again succeeded in their most well worn, time tested and effective tactic: diversion.

Bullshit. They have created a backlash which will become increasingly evident as the months pass, and will result in a landslide repudiation of their ilk in 2012.

Why the writer of this piece would embrace such a thesis is beyond me, as it is not supported by the facts. For example, it is effectively rebutted by some recent polls, such as the Quinnipiac (sp?) poll cited recently on this site.

I can't believe that people buy into the nonsense that the Left is helping itself here, or hurting conservatives. All the Left is doing is exposing their weakness and desperation, while energizing conservatives to a degree beyond even that seen in the 2010 elections.

Mark my words. I, for one, will crawl across broken glass on my belly to see that these slanderous propagandists are rejected forcefully.

Conservatives' enhanced ascendancy to power in 2012 will be the silver lining which results from the Left's calumny in recent days, and in the coming months.

Only one solution...All the post-election euphoria was for nothing...The marxists are in full control and, as usual, the GOP is in full retreat...Only one solution...”Radiation” and “chemo” are a failure. Radical surgery is required.

They made hay with their smears.

They fool the gullible and-—maybe most importantly to them-—they get the lefty chumps to open their wallets and send the Dems gobs of money whenever they resort to those tactics.

I’d love to see what their fundraising looks like the last 7 days.

They use stupid comments to get brilliant results. I’ll argue that till hell freezes over. They know how to rouse the rabble and get the pubbies on the defensive every single time.

This article is nonsense. The Left has lost this one hands down. They have not succeeded in convinncing anyone but the 20% on the rabid moon bat fringe that the killings were the result of to much Conservatism on the airwaves.

They made hay with their smears.

I;m curious, Where is the evidence for your claim? certainly not the polling which has shown only about 15% of the public believes political rhetoric had anything to do with the killing. So just what, aside from a knee jerk willingness to assume everything the Left does is some sort of a “no possibility of failure” scheme, causes you to believe they have somehow won something here.

My take is they are in full retreat over the way they handled this whole thing.

EWE saw what not defending smears did for Bush. You seem to believe defending against smears is somehow the wrong thing to do and you also are one of those who assign mystical qualities to the abilities of the left. This is a party which just lost lost 70 Congressional seats and over 700 legislative seats nationwide in the most devastating blowout in some 83 years for any political party.

And, according to you, because some wacko shot 6 people in AZ it all means nothing...just like that. The spending cuts we voted for-off the table, the repeal of Obamacare-no one cares now, the arrogance and lies of the left for the past 2 years-all forgotten. ALL polling, even Quinnipiac shows a mere 15-20% of people think political speech had anything to do with this. What do you know that we don’t?

Do I have this right?

Time will tell but I think they’ve screwed the pooch this time. Were people not as aware as they are (there’s been an incredible awakening...hence the last election), I’m kinda surprised but they’re still engaged, I’d say you could be right. But polls show the people don’t agree. It’s not too hard to see the viciousness on full display and the blame being spewed before the blood had dried. I think people see them for who they are. Rules for Radicals can only work for so long.

I learned from the Grayson campaign how the game is played.

Say some thing ugly like, “The Republican healthcare plan for the elderly consists of ‘Die quickly,’” then go count your cash recepits from contributors. He took in hundreds of thousands of $ everytime he did it. He lost, it’s true, but it wasn’t from lack of funds. And everybody needs funding to run-—it’s the first step.

You think Wall Street is going to dump money into the next Obama campaign? Or the Kiddie Corps over the web? Not like 2008. So the Dems have to try something else. Throwing red meat to their insane base brings in the bucks.

And they did get a small if statistically insignificant bump in the first polls after the Giffords shooting.

I can’t prove what any individual politician or the DNC took in since 1/8-—yet. Too soon. But I’m going to try to find out when the time comes.

And if big-mouth Dupnik is planning to run again next year (he’s been reelected 7 times), all those lefties in Little San Francisco in the Desert will take very good care of him financially. The base simply eats that crap right up!

So the lefties get their cookies off by talking trash, take in money, sell a few more of their trashy newspapers and mags to the Dhimmi base, and maybe con a few silly independents over to their side.

How good do you think the Republicans did last week? The House boys went on a 7 day hiatus (completely unnecessary)thus delaying the repeal vote, and will come back looking for new ways to establish “comity” with the Dhimmi devils.

GOP business as usual.

Let events prove me wrong! Please Lord!

As I said on my previous comment, I hope events prove me wrong.

But I don’t want us to be deceived like we were in 2008 when we thought that the “new media” would overcome the LSM. Nothing of the sort happened...the papers and the networks carried 0 to an easy victory.

As long as 10 times more people watch the alphabets’ evening news than watch Fox, it’s going to be tough. And Fox, if you haven’t noticed, seems to be getting more liberal by the day.

It’s going to be a tough row to hoe, getting rid of Obama. Taking over the Senate is very doable but then we’ll have gridlock which isn’t all bad but repeal of O-care will be nigh well impossible as long as Hussein occupies the Oval Office.

...we have to stop letting Dumbo slip by without attaching his name to every decision made....example, IT WAS NOT NAPOLITANO'S DECISION to drop, hold off,or delay border security work...IT WAS OBAMA'S. Another example...the recent memorial, the pundits cooed, Obama was taken back by the applause during his speech...BS!...he relished in it, he knew t-shirts and souvenirs were being handed out,he knew Gabby had her eyes opened before his visit... ..the guy is a control freak, to try to play the "healer" or consoler, there's a new Dumbo word, while all the while he stood silently while vile accusations were made (and still being made)and he's the healer? Any and all EPA,Homeland,TSA,Health,SSI,GM,Hillary,....any of them. HE HAS THE FINAL NOD!
