Belgian Anti-Semitism Leads to More Aliyah

According to figures released by the Jewish Agency and published this past week on the FightHatred.com website, in 2010 there was an increase of 63 percent in the number of Belgian Jews who made aliyah to Israel. Two hundred and fifty Belgian Jews chose to make Israel their home in 2010, compared to 152 in 2009.

The report cites increasingly open anti-Semitism in recent years and the rise of violent attacks against members of the community, especially its highly-visible hareidi religious members, as causes for the sharp rise in the numbers of individuals making aliyah.

There are 40,000 Jews in Belgium today, about half of whom are members of the Jewish community of Antwerp, which is famous for its involvement in making the city a leading global center of the diamond trade, but at the same time has increasingly been under threat in recent years.

The article only talks of the Jews who have run to Israel. You can bet there are greater numbers who are trying to come here. I know of good numbers of French Jews here now, who ran from France.

That is not entirely true - Brussels Moslim population is 256,000 - Mecca on the other hand is over a million.

LOL. Not quite... BUT they are extremely agressive, street crime is out of control. On the upside, I've seen a number of reports in the recent past that they don't shy away from also attacking the eurocrats in the EU administration part of the city. That, I have no problem with.

Wrong (1) it's 512,000. Half the Muslims, being women, are in strict purdah, lest an infidel gaze upon their alleged charms. (Muslims are like mice. For everyone you spot, etc. etc.)

Agreed, Muslims are very agressive as they are anywhere in the world. I read several European Newspapers such as Der Spiegel, Austrian Time, BCC ect... and many many people in Europe are against the eurocrats, for a wide variety of reasons.

It is difficult for a Western European to immigrate to America, unless it is for family reunification.
