TUCSON, Ariz. — Remarks of President Barack Obama, as delivered Wednesday at the "Together We Thrive" memorial service for the victims of the Jan. 8 attack on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords that killed six and wounded 13, including the congresswoman:

"To the families of those we've lost; to all who called them friends; to the students of this university, the public servants gathered tonight, and the people of Tucson and Arizona: I have come here tonight as an American who, like all Americans, kneels to pray with you today, and will stand by you tomorrow.

"There is nothing I can say that will fill the sudden hole torn in your hearts. But know this: the hopes of a nation are here tonight. We mourn with you for the fallen. We join you in your grief. And we add our faith to yours that Representative Gabrielle Giffords and the other living victims of this tragedy pull through.

"As Scripture tells us:

'There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.'

Does this mean that if we bring a knife, he WON’T bring a gun? Hmm. Will he even bring a knife?

I thought the speech itself was fine, its hard for a President to screw something like that up really. The thing that annoyed me was the applause and the atmosphere. Why is it that Democrats can’t have a “memorial service” that feels like, I don’t know, a memorial service?

It lacked the quiet solemnity and reflection such an occasion required.

Charles Krauthammer must have been listening to a different speech than I. Obama exhibited his characteristic traits of arrogance and narcissism in this so-called "memorial". It's clear that he wants to stifle debate as he enacts his Marxist policies. I listened with an open mind and without any preconceived notions with the intent of giving him a chance to possibly redeem himself tonight.

He was, as usual, very disappointing in this tone deaf, ham-fisted effort.

I was fully expecting the crowd to break out several beach balls to bat around. Not a good venue for a memorial.

I agree. The speech was well written, and Obama, I have to admit, delivered it extremely well. I don’t think it reflected his feelings or beliefs, but he didn’t get where he is by being a slouch with a teleprompter. Recognizing the strengths of your opponent is only wise.

The crowd reaction was disgusting, with the cheering and shouting, and the T-shirts and campaign slogans were completely out of place. If a Republican President or his staff had handed out T-shirts at a memorial, we would never hear the end of it.

I like Psalm 46.
But the Teleprompter reader didn't connect God's Word to whatever message the Teleprompter reader was trying to convey.
God's Word certainly stands on its own - but I'm not sure how it related to the speech.
God IS in charge, and we rest solely in HIS Grace. The turmoil around us is just noise, and we'll keep our eyes on the LORD.

Psalms 46:1-11 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early. The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth. He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

I just read the transcipt. I thought it was a very good, and touching speech. Of course I choke up anyway thinking about all of the hope and joy and promise of a nine-year girl that is cut down by a deranged person. I thought it interesting at the end where obama said something about putting your hand over your heart. Somewhere I read something that little Christina had said something about always putting your hand over your heart when you say the Pledge of Allegiance.

It only took hours for MSM/ABC/CBS/MSNBC/CNN/BLOGS to forget the victims.
