Redistricting imperils Dennis Kucinich
Politico ^ | 1/12/11 | Alex Isenstadt

With the upcoming round of redistricting threatening to end his career, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) is taking his case to the court of public opinion in an attempt to stave off the elimination of his district.

Kucinich, a two-time presidential candidate just elected to an eighth term in his Cleveland-area seat, is already in reelection mode. He’s reaching out to voters and blasting e-mails to his local and national supporters in anticipation of an uncertain fate in 2012 — a surprisingly urgent pace that reflects the gravity of the situation confronting the outspoken liberal lawmaker.

With newly released census figures showing Ohio will lose two seats in reapportionment, there is widespread speculation that Republicans in the state Legislature will eliminate Kucinich’s seat outright — a move that could force the veteran congressman either to retire or to run in a Democratic primary against one of his neighboring colleagues, Reps. Betty Sutton or Marcia Fudge.

Just before the end of the year, Kucinich sent an e-mail to his supporters headlined “My Congressional District May Be Eliminated,” warning: “We are going to have to prepare for a different kind of election, possibly in a different place because my district may be eliminated. We are going to have to organize in a different way now.”

Dennis Kucinich — Bankrupting America just as he bankrupted Cleveland.

I don’t know — that part of Ohio is going to elect lefties any way you cut it, and it might as well be one willing to speak truth to power, at least as he sees it, rather than another compliant tool of the government union/trial lawyer/racial grievance/limousine liberal gang that sets the agenda for most Democrats in Congress.

It is not congress, though. It is every four years when he runs for President.

There’s a good chance his seat will dissapear. But fear not, he’ll just run for and win something else.

Remember, this was the “boy mayor” who bankrupted Cleveland in the 70’s. He was a national joke then, but that didn’t stop him from bouncing back.

Never count him out.

The thing I don’t get is why he just doesn’t retire already. He’s gotta be in his mid 60’s or so.

Guess he just craves the limelight.

Goodbye Dennis. Please take Marcy Kaptur and Marcia Fudge with you.
Now if only we can get rid of Sherrod Brown.

If he’s put in the same district as Fudge, there’s no way he can win. He probably has a chance against Sutton....not sure if Kaptur’s district can stretch all the way from Toledo.

Why, why does Ohio get rid of our entertaining Democrats when redistricting? Back in 2000 when Ohio lost a seat, James "There's a possum on my head" Traficant was the one the Democrats volunteered to be squeezed out of a district (and then at the last minute, my district's boundaries were shifted to turn it from solid Democrat to semi-solid Republican thus removing Tony Hall - thanks guys!). This year the Republicans hold the Ohio House, Senate and Governorship so in all likelihood both losses will come at the Democrats' expense. But please keep Kucinich. He's that lucky combination of crazy but relatively ineffective that makes him less harmful than other Democrats.

Now Dennis.

You're vastly overstating your problem.

Just hold out for a slum, a college or two, and a couple of large graveyards and you'll be just fine.
