Liked him as a player, like him as a coach as well. The Niners have a young team, the timing is probably right. Also with the new bride, probably looking at the financial angle as well since Stanford wouldn’t be able to match what an NFL team can pay.

You are kidding, right?

I do agree though that SF is a much better match for a first time gig, if they fail you can blame the organization.

I've heard she is very happy in Palo Alto, with some of the best schools anywhere available for the kids. The Stanford faculty in the area wouldn't put up with anything less.

Supposedly, Harbaugh met with Stanford last night and they were going to sweeten the pot to be competitive, but that didn't work out. I think he just wants to coach an NFL team where he is in a position to succeed. He can do that in the NFC West, as opposed to the AFC East where he'd get pounded twice a year by the Pats as long as Brady is good, then twice a year by the Jets, then by his brother who coaches at Baltimore.
