Jim and Carolyn McCullar Were 'Shaking' And 'Crying' When They Won

Jim McCullar kissed his wife, Carolyn, as he claimed his $190 million share of the Mega Millions lottery, part of the second-largest jackpot in the history of the U.S. lottery.

MCuller, 68, and his wife live in Ephrata, Wash., a town of fewer than 7,000 people, where he works as a real estate agent.

McCullar is one of two people who picked the correct numbers to earn a share of a $380 million Mega Millions bonanza. The other winner, from Idaho, has not contacted lottery officials.

It was Carolyn McCullar's idea to buy two lottery tickets last Sunday while they were grocery shopping in Safeway.

Are they required to go public? Is this one of the terms of winning?

They don't have a choice. It's part of the by-laws of the game.

I believe that can be done...I have seen listings of winners with "XYZ Trust" as the claimant.

Those were big prizes, but not in the neighborhood of $190,000,000...

In most states they are required to be named. In a few they are not.

Powerball
http://www.powerball.com/pb_contact.asp

"All but four states (DE, KS, ND, OH) have laws that require the lottery to release the name and city of residence to anyone who asks."

I think the above applies to Mega Millions also.

$190 mil? What a lie. If they took the lump sum it was $80 mil. - pre tax.

At age 68, he’d better take the lump sum, the other option is 26 annual payments, he’d be 94 when he received his last payment, if he made it that long.

$80 mil is a chunk of pre tax money but it sure as heck is not $190 mil.

Man, I tell you what.

I win the lottery ain’t no one going to know about it.

I’d sit on it quietly and secretly arrange a trust.

No need to be hasty and being anonymously rich lessens the handouts, hangers on, thieves and murderers.

I’ve heard of instances where winners will hire a lawyer to claim it for them. Damn... Talk about swimming with sharks!
