Austerity is first order for Boehner's installation as House speaker

Nancy Pelosi brought camera crews and dignitaries into her childhood Baltimore neighborhood where a street was being renamed in her honor, while John Boehner is bringing his 11 siblings from working-class Ohio to Washington for a private reunion. Pelosi was feted at the Italian Embassy as Tony Bennett sang "I Left My Heart in San Francisco." Her Republican successor was invited to the posh W Hotel for a LeAnn Rimes concert, but is planning to skip it.
Austerity is the theme of Boehner's ascendancy to House speaker this week, placing the start of this new Congress in stark contrast to the more lavish festivities that accompanied Democrat Pelosi's swearing-in four years ago.
On Wednesday, following a bipartisan prayer service at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Boehner will recite the oath and take the gavel from Pelosi with the attendant pomp and no more - except, perhaps, a few tears.
Then the 61-year-old Ohioan will deliver his maiden speech to the new House, which includes a huge cadre of freshmen lawmakers. Many are rambunctious Republicans who sailed into Washington with the tea party winds and are determined to use their majority to undo President Obama's legislative record.

FU on the tears comment Philip Rucker, FU. If that is the extent of your journalism you are a small man indeed.
Now that’s what I call an “early edition.” I feel like Hobson and the cat. What’s up with the headline? Its not even Wednesday in the continental US yet.
LOL!
Sad for you on the tears comment Philip Rucker, sad for you. If that is the extent of your journalism you are a small, small man indeed.
She will never be ousted from office. She’s in a safe district. Even with redistricting, she won’t face a great deal of competition.
That's a very nice touch.
And, I'm counting on the new Speaker to honor his oath to the Constitution by subpenaing the birth records of Obama so that the public can see just how rotten things have gotten in the Obama White House.
Yup. The Democrats will be amazed to find out what’s in the Constitution. So will the MSM!
Tears are what many of us are feeling as we watch the destruction of this country!
The House GOP Steering Committee chaired by Speaker-designate John Boehner chose liberal Republican Fred Upton, responsible for banning the incandescent light bulb, to become the Chairman of the House Energy & Commerce Committee in the 112th Congress, because they believed that he was more capable of providing oversight to the EPA amongst other qualities they saw.
Tissue?
“The Democrats will be amazed to find out whats in the Constitution. So will the MSM!”
You think they’ll listen or pay a bit of attention? No - they don’t want to learn and don’t care. How much coverage will the MSM give this inspired and worthy act of the reading of the Constitution? Think “crickets chirping”.
If any of them report on it at all, it’ll be a one-liner delivered with smirks and rolled eyes.
I can’t wait to see him snatch that gavel out of Nancy’s hot little hands. I just hope Boehner can make it through his speech without turning into Tiny Tears. That stuff has got to stop. I get that he’s sensitive but really its getting embarrassing.
I’d like to see Boehner hold that gavel up and say “How ya like me now?”.
Lets see if he raises the DEBT CEILING.
I wish there was a way for us to conduct a gentleman's wager on that. I would give you 5 to 1 odds.
Boner will serve the full two years of the 112th Congress at the very least.
“Lets see if he raises the DEBT CEILING.”
He will.
“Id like to see Boehner hold that gavel up and say How ya like me now?
I just hope he doesn’t feel obligated to kiss her on the cheek, but I bet he will (ugh)
“Tiny Tears” - LOL, guess I know in what era you grew up - mine :-)
Third: File ethics charges against Barney Frank.
Fourth: Expel Frank from the House.
Fifth: Gently remind the other side that the Republicans won, and that civility can now commence.

It better be the most austere “Austerity” ever imposed on any country ever or else we are doomed.
We’re Rome. And Rome is burning!
