Has anyone ever heard of this happening before??????
One top biologist from Cornell University said the birds were “....probably asleep in a single tree when a washing machine-type thunderstorm sucked them up into the air, disoriented them, and even fatally soaked and chilled them.”

Is there a military base or military weapons research center nearby?

Must be globull smarming, the lack of health care in America, racism and the Tea Party. There is no other explanation.

Six birds? Question Number One: does the neighbor's kid own a BB gun? Back when I was a kid, the annual starling migration produced flocks of birds so thick, we could literally wing 'em with a rock. A good Crossman air pump rifle and a tube of .177 pellets could (and did) yield quite a bit of avian carnage.
"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

IMHO, it's likely the woman poisoned the birds and placed them around her yard. Maybe to get some fame money.

It would be nice if some civic minded citizen would gather several specimens and take them to a private lab for doing a necropsy, so that someone can determine a cause of death.
I note in the recent case, government officials were not just picking up samples, but picking them all up. I wonder if anyone thought to gather a few of their own. The government said it was safe and then sent people in hazmat suits to pick up the birds.

The “explanations” for these bird deaths border on outright bullcrap. Why not run out the usual “it was a weather balloon”, too?

Years ago someone pointed out to me that, despite their huge numbers, it is very rare for a person to encounter a dead bird. I had to admit he was right.
So, I suppose, on the occasions when folks do run across an example of "thinning of the flock" (which, logically, must be a frequent occurrence) it makes the news...
