Countless Juarez(MX)Residents Flee 'Dying City'(110,000+)

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico – The mother of four raised a finger, pointing out abandoned and stripped concrete homes and counting how many families have fled the Western Hemisphere's deadliest city on her street alone.

"One, two, three, four, here, and two more back there on the next block," said Laura Longoria.

The 36-year-old ran a convenience store in her working-class neighborhood in south Juarez until the owners closed shop, fed up with the tribute they were forced to pay to drug gangsters to stay in business.

Her family vowed to stick it out. But then came the kidnapping of a teen from a stationery shop across the street. After that, Longoria's husband, Enrique Mondragon, requested a transfer from the bus company where he works.

"They asked, `where to,'" he recalled. "I said, `Anywhere.'"

No one knows how many residents have left the city of 1.4 million since a turf battle over border drug corridors unleashed an unprecedented wave of cartel murders and mayhem. Business leaders, citing government tax information, say the exodus could number 110,000, while a municipal group and local university say it's closer to 230,000 and estimates by social organizations are even higher.

I don’t blame Mexicans for wanting to leave but I think they’ll find standing up for their own nation more fullfilling in the long run.

It seems pretty obvious that Mexican authorities cannot handle the situation. Their police are so corrupt they don’t know which ones they can trust. Their military is just about as bad. If Mexico were smart they would ask for help. Possibly from the UN, but certainly from us.

The tail is wagging the dog in these Mexican craphole border towns.

I think the internal drug wars, not the War on Drugs, is a way to incorporate Mexico into the US. Any sane American administration would’ve had the border militarized long ago. We’re being had. Viva all illegal Mexicans. You’re now Americos!

Time is not our friend. The people are in a trap, and the situation calls for UN intervention to free them. Instead, the UN fails to even embarrass the Mexico over this travesty, from where eventually these crimes may arrive at the very doorstep of the UN, right there in NYC.

The "reconquisas" seem to want to come here, and bring Mexico with them.

I believe you to be right! It is entirely too curious why so little is being done to enforce our own southern border without it being blatantly purposeful. As you say—”we’ve been had”!

Yes, if we can’t get illegals legal, just annex Mexico, for American national security. Our “leaders” are on that path. As if sections of our major, and not so major, cities are safe.

Slimy RINOs in Texas like Kay Baily, Perry and Cornyn will accept more illegals. McCain and Kyl love em too.

Juarez is turning into the fictional town in Yojimbo/Fistful of Dollars/Last Man Standing.

The coffinmakers will be the last business to go.

At what point do we end up with foreign troops at our southern border?

I’m not talking Mexican troops, but folks from elsewhere.

If the U.S. can “peacekeep,” then other nations can as well.

This is my #1 fear with Mexico - that a foreign power sees an opportunity to step into the void to make a point about neutered U.S. power and will.

What then?

“Mexico is a cesspool of corruption and complacency.”

Many of those that come here bring a certain amount of acceptance of corruption with them. It is a cultural thing.
