Katie Couric, CBS Begin Contract Talks
TV Newser ^ | Dec. 20, 2010 | Alex Werpin

Posted on 12/20/2010 4:17:01 PM PST by Beaten Valve

CBS News and “CBS Evening News” anchor Katie Couric have begun preliminary talks about a new contract, Bloomberg News reports. Couric’s current deal with CBS ends next year.

Not surprisingly, it appears that any potential deal would result in lower pay for Couric, who signed a record-breaking $15 million a year in 2006.

That would be in line with what CBS CEO Les Mooves said in August of rich anchor conracts: ”Those days are over, because the news no longer generates the kind of revenue or success that’s worth doing [those contracts].”

Later that month he backtracked a bit, saying that they “haven’t even begun” to negotiate with Couric.

Of course, rumors of Couric leaving CBS News are nothing new, TVNewser has been reporting on them since 2008. But with her current deal coming to an end, and Bloomberg reporting that CNN is interested in her, it looks like some movement is actually beginning to happen.

Bloomberg also reports on some other things CBS could bring to the table:

CBS and Couric haven’t addressed specific terms yet, one of the people said. The anchor’s contract provides a window when she can entertain offers from companies other than CBS, one of the people said.

One option for Couric would be to produce and host a show that New York-based CBS could syndicate, the person said. The anchor intends to continue her 40-minute online chats with guests that have included former Vice President Al Gore and pop- star Justin Bieber, said one of the people.

Couric also expects to continue taking assignments for CBS’s “60 Minutes,” the person said.

I think she should join the cast of "The Jersey Shore".

We already know that she prefers younger men...

She’ll show up at CNN just in time to finish it off.

Pretty amazing admission from Moonves.

I wonder who she’s sleeping with? It can’t be her unbiased broadcasting skills.

They should get rid of her.

I hope CBS finally pays Katie what she’s worth.

I’m always amazed, yet not surprised, when these raging socialists in the media become raging capitalists when it comes to their own employment contracts and book deals. You would think they would notice their blatant hypocrisy, but it never dawns on them.

Les Mooves will open the door to the bird cage, let the bird fly around “Perky” then land on her shoulder and sing it’s song: Toot-a-loo; toot-a-loo; toot-a-loo

I really doubt that that many viewers would care if they canned her. Fox News has several women on staff that are better looking and at least as good in their delivery.

Actually - I'd love to see her get 30 million a year - let them spend obscene amounts on her, it will expedite the obsolescence process of CBS.

Many of FX News reporters have law degrees. “Perky” was a cheerleader.

Hey Couric, here’s your new contract. $0.00 Don’t let the door hit you in your commie ass on the way out.

Any word on how much Katie is willing to pay CBS so she can pretend to be a newscaster?
