Thanks for the link to the Cairo, in Vicksburg, a 175 foot ironclad with 2 1/2 inch armour, that was sunk by a mine.

Note that the vessel was ordered in August of 1861, was launched in 1861, and commissioned Jan 25 1862.

Today, you couldn’t even get a burned out streetlight bulb replaced that rapidly!
