Nancy Pelosi doesn't have much longer as Speaker of the House. But if there's one constant in our ever-changing world, it's that Pelosi will remain unconscionable until the gavel is wrested from her hand. During a recent speech on the House floor, she expressed opinions about unemployment insurance and tax policy that seem irrational even for her.
Pelosi supports extending unemployment insurance beyond the current 99-week limit. To substantiate her position, she touted unemployment benefits as a burgeoning economic catalyst. All we need do is and tap into their power. Pelosi informed Congress that "[u]nemployment insurance ... returns two dollars for every one dollar that is put out there."
A two-dollar return for every one invested is a lofty promise. No financial advisor would make such a guarantee, especially in these days of stagnant stocks, miniscule interest rates, and sunken real estate values. Not even a gold-plated, platinum diamond could augur a 100-percent return on investment.
Is Pelosi a pecuniary Nostradamus? If so, it's imprudent to squander her financial perception. To realize the full economic impact unemployment insurance portends, every American from restaurant bus boys to Fortune 500 CEOs should cease work immediately. According to Pelosi's two-for-one estimations, living on unemployment alone would boost our gross domestic product from 2009's $14.1 trillion to $28.2 trillion. In an instant, the U.S. economy would exceed that of the European Union, China, and Japan combined. And this can be accomplished while we sit home watching reruns of "Hogan's Heroes."
Does Pelosi sound crazy? As the old saying goes, "Brother, you ain't seen nothing yet." If Pelosi's take on unemployment benefits has your blood boiling, you'll erupt over her thoughts on taxation.
"Giving $700 billion to the wealthiest people in America does add $700 billion to the deficit," Pelosi claims. Of course, extending the current tax rates gives nothing to anyone. Furthermore, Congress doesn't have to "pay" for tax cuts even when reductions are on the table. But remember: in Pelosi's world, a static tax rate equals a cut because all wealth is first and foremost government property.
This is a great article. I encourage all to click on the link to read the second half of the piece as the author ponders in print if Pelosi is stupid or ignorant or . . . ?
I hope that we see as much of Nancy after she hands over the gavel as we did the minority leader in the past. What I’m saying is I never want to hear or see her again.
One dollar in tax relief should return two dollars just the same huh Nancy?
That particular talking point, that unemployment benefits are an economic stimulus, is making the rounds. She’s not the only one spouting that total nonsense. Maybe they think we’re really stupid enough to buy it and since the MSM parrots that crap it’s likely a lot of people do believe it.
To this...
Glad you liked it.
“Insufferable boor” and “pathological liar” are just as accurate in Nancy’s case as “stupid” and “ignorant,” probably more so.
Nothing quite makes my blood boil like this picture.
Ok, I earned 2.00. Gave the government 1.00. They gave it to an unemployed person. That person spent it. Of that 1.00 the unemployed person spent, 2.00 went where? I’m missing something.
I wouldn’t knock myself out trying to decipher Nancy’s unemployment crap.
Some staffer probably wrote her a memo telling her how to spin the issue and, Nancy being Nancy, she got it all bleeped up when she tried to express herself about it.
She’s wrong about this, but let’s assume for the same of argument, she’s not wrong.
For those unemployment checks to be paid out to the unemployed, the money has to first be taken from the productive taxpayers. That means one dollar is first taken out of the economy.
Then, even if that one dollar becomes two dollars, it is still a net gain of one dollar.
Now, it doesn’t return two dollars. The return might be thirty cents, at most. That means we lose at least seventy cents. But a large portion of the original one dollar taken from taxpayers would have returned more than one dollar if the taxpayers had been allowed to use that dollar whichever way they chose to use it. So, we actually lose more than seventy cents. Maybe 80 or 90 cents.
Great deal, Nancy.
Excellent, excellent, excellent post. It amazes me to see what these people get away with.
Glad you liked it.
Pelosi is neither stupid or ignorant...she works for that evil man behind the curtain.
I’m with you. This *thing* has acquired Jane Fonda status in my opinion. I’d like to slam her one with that gavel.
An American horror story.
I have never been able to post my thoughts about it, and never will.
So who is worse?
The leader of the Sheep or the sheep who blindly follow this scumbag.
Double, taxation, to be sure.
They love taxing the same money multiple times...that’s why they have no compunction about raising the estate tax.
With unemployment compensation, they get to buy some votes and make the money taxable-—if the person’s total income reaches that level.
