McCain: Republicans could lose seats if omnibus passes (McCain says he is speaking for Tea Party)

Republicans could relinquish a significant portion of the gains they made in the midterm elections if they "allow" the omnibus spending bill to pass, Sen. John McCain said Wednesday.

The Arizona Republican said that Tea Party activists who helped the GOP make large inroads on Democrats are "enraged" about the $1.1 trillion measure to fund the government that contains nearly $8 billion in earmarks.

"They gave us a second chance last November ... And if we Republicans allow this thing to go through, then I'm not sure they're going to give us another chance," McCain said during an interview with Fox News's Sean Hannity.

McCain's comments put in stark relief the political dangers Republicans, and some Democrats, could face if the appropriations bill passes the Senate as is during the lame-duck session.

The 2008 GOP presidential nominee said there are five or six senators from his party who "may vote for it," leading him to say that the bill "may pass."

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) has introduced an alternative to the omnibus: a one-page continuing resolution that would fund the government until Feb. 18, at which point the new Congress could pass a comprehensive spending measure.

McCain also warned Democrats that they could feel voter backlash if they support the bill. Democrats must defend a whopping 23 Senate seats, some in swing and red states, in the 2012 elections.

The senator urged Tea Partiers to make their voices heard even louder against the bill.

"I was on the phone with the Tea Partiers all over Arizona today," he said. "They are enraged. They are outraged. I want to see an uprising all over this country from the same people who caused our [gains]."

I would rather face a known enemy than to have a traitor in my ranks.

McKennedy;

This is a sword.

Place the pointy end on your abdomen.

Place the handle on the floor.

Fall forward.

You will then have done more service to your country than the sum of all the rest of your sorry, smelly, pitiful life.

ANY senator can request that the full bill be read out loud. John, YOU can do it, too.

Actually, I don't think the next series of reactions to Washington ignoring their bosses is going to be just a change at election time. For some reason, I have the feeling that a lot of elected officials could face the kind of disdain and fear for their own safety that they faced in a much earlier era of our history.

It's sad that it may come to that, but it's even sadder that making the elected service dogs heel is so long overdue.

Regards

" . . . And if we Republicans allow this thing to go through. . .."

So which is it, Johnny Turncoat? Tea Party or Republican?

Still posing as both, eh? We got yer number, oh crafty one, and you rolled snake eyes again.

because they know they are working against us.

IMO, the people leaving office should be reminded every day about the reason why they are not in office. Just because they were defeated, doesn’t let them off the hook for their blatent disregard of the will of the people. Every holiday they should be sent a card saying “Glad you’re not there”!

If the GOP stays on kits current course I can foresee a major third party forming.

Please McCain- Just shut up.

All you’re going to do in the end is grumble something about “earmarks”...and then vote for it anyways. GO AWAY.

McCain...speaking for Tea Partiers? Now I have seen everything.

Something certainly is just not quite right here.

Blood of Tyrants: “ANY senator can request that the full bill be read out loud. John, YOU can do it, too.”

C’mon John! You can do it. Reclaim that Maverick title by being one! As much damage as you’ve done to the Republican Party, you still have time (6 years in fact) to make amends and save your legacy!

With many Republicans caving, GO MAVERICK! Buck the lame duck trend!

(I can dream, can’t I?)

What annoys me are not the RINOs, but Conservative voters that constantly say we MUST VOTE RINOS so that we could get a majority, than whine about being betrayed. Rubbish, this is what you WANT!

When an incumbent loses, it says a lot. As bad as most of them are, the vast majority are (unfortunately) reelected. A politician usually has to be a real jackass to lose. Fortunately, many incumbents are working day and night in this lame duck session to improve their jackassivity!

DManA: “WE HAVEN’T EVEN TAKEN OVER YET!!!”

Do you not understand the concept of a filibuster? I’m thinking there are 41 Republican senators right now. That’s a filibuster UNLESS one of the Republicans votes against not only their party but the will of the people as expressed last elections.
