Game Called. Across the field of play
the dusk has come, the hour is late.
The fight is done and lost or won,
the player files out through the gate.
The tumult dies, the cheer is hushed,
the stands are bare, the park is still.
But through the night there shines the light,
home beyond the silent hill.
Game Called. Where in the golden light
the bugle rolled the reveille.
The shadows creep where night falls deep,
and taps has called the end of play.
The game is done, the score is in,
the final cheer and jeer have passed.
But in the night, beyond the fight,
the player finds his rest at last.
Game Called. Upon the field of life
the darkness gathers far and wide,
the dream is done, the score is spun
that stands forever in the guide.
Nor victory, nor yet defeat
is chalked against the players name.
But down the roll, the final scroll,
shows only how he played the game.

dj,
my friend, long time no hear. Hope all is well.
Escaped the winter blast down in VOL country? Not an inch of snow yet in Southern New England.
that is what they it here. Southern New England.
better than New Southern England.
We got an inch of snow back on Sunday, which is still melting. Some worry about freezing sleet overnight. Of course, how we handle winter weather in the South vs. the North is quite different. Northerners are used to dealing with lots of snow. We get even a smidge of snow (or threat of it) and it’s absolute bedlam.
It was a good pitch too, high and inside to a righthanded batter, just like old times! He threw a stronger pitch at 91 than obama did at 47 or whatever the F his age is.
I heard he had a baseball, from a barnstorming tour, signed by Babe Ruth and Lou Gherig. Underneath, a 12 year old Feller wrote “Bob Feller”.
I don’t know if it’s true or not, but it’s good to have goals.
Let us not forget Pat Tillman.
I also saw him pitch in an old-timers’ game. Wonder if we were at the same game. I think Camilio Pascua also pitched in the game I saw. Believe it was in Baltimore.
Rapid Robert Feller, a great American and great pitcher: RIP. Prayers up for him and his.
Local radio host here was talking about him. After that first year of pitching in the Majors he had to return to school for his Sr year.
Bob Feller was the first pitcher to be clocked by radar. The ARMY brought in the equipment and timed him at 98 MPH.
Prayers for his family and friends.
Thanks for the link!
Feller was one of my idols growing up. He lived a good life.
no winter here yet. Cold at night. No snow yet.
If I head north an hour into the Massachusetts mountains (Berkshires), very different climate.
