Bill Hemmer Grills GOP Senator On Earmark Hypocrisy
Mediaite ^ | December 15, 2010

Posted on 12/15/2010 10:43:28 AM PST by La Lydia

Senator John Cornyn appeared on FOX News with anchor Bill Hemmer and hoped to discuss his strong opposition to the massive spending bill proposed by Democrats. Hemmer, however, would not let him escape without addressing Cornyn’s own contribution to the bill: $16 million worth of earmarks. Cornyn said he was in favor of an earmark moratorium yet considered his earmarks “individually defensible.” Hemmer rightly said “I’m confused.”

First Cornyn described passing the spending bill at this time as “completely tone deaf . . . after coming off this election when the American people said very clearly that this runaway Washington spending and this unsustainable debt were just unacceptable.”

Apparently Cornyn’s hearing aid is not too functional either as he thinks his earmarks in the bill somehow represent Washington spending that American people would find acceptable. Regardless, Cornyn thinks voting against the entire bill is more important than defending his earmarks.

Hemmer, with just a simple question, is able to catch the Senator off-guard and help to dispel any myth that Republicans are “safe” when appearing on FOX News...

"Individually defensible" indeed. Video at link. Gotcha.

Damned hypocrite. You're either FOR or AGAINST them, John.

He said he’s voting against it. He and Thune had a presser earlier this morning.

My last congressman was Mark Kirk (RINO-IL). He said that he opposes all congressional earmarks, but he ensured that the federal government spent at least $5 million, each, in our district, for HUD, Headstart, commuter trains, and local police departments. He’s a liar and a hypocrite. Last month, he became a U.S. senator.

The tax bill passed. This one, the Omnibus spending bill with the earmarks, hasn’t been voted on yet.

We need to hold Cornyn’s feet to the fire now that he’s an earmark “Hero”:

TERM LIMITS!

If a Senator can’t learn the ropes in one year and fight for what’s right for the next five years, then he has no reason to get re-elected.

A couple of points.

1) Cornyn’s earmark was for border security, which arguably benefits the entire USA. Thune’s earmark was for bomber maintenance.

2) Dems submitted 99% of the earmarks on this bill, Porkulus 2. Why doesn’t the media mention that?

Still, they should have known better. I don’t think either project had to be done now.
