Senate to Vote on START as Soon as Wednesday
TownHall ^ | Dec 14 2010 | Katie Pavlich

The Hill is reporting the Senate could cram a vote on the START nuclear treaty into the lame duck session as early as Wednesday.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) plans to bring the New START nuclear treaty to the floor as soon as Wednesday and is confident he can secure 67 votes to ratify it.

“We could get to the START treaty as soon as tomorrow,” said Jim Manley, Reid’s spokesman. “I believe there are the votes to ratify the treaty.”

Ratification of START would be a major victory for President Obama, who has pushed it as one of his highest priorities since the mid-term election.

Sen. Jon Kyl (Ariz.), the lead GOP negotiator with the administration on START, has said there isn’t enough time for the Senate to ratify the treaty in the lame-duck session. But Republicans face some pressure to support the deal, which has the support of every living former secretary of State, as well as the military.

Yes, they need to filibuster everything until January.

Of course it can wait, and it should. Things like this should never be done in haste. They just don’t think they can pass it in Jan.

On principle a major foreign policy decision should not be made by a lame duck Congress.

Obongo wants it to add to his list of far left accomplishments so he can tout it during the 2012 campaign. If we get 4 more years of this clown, that tells me that there is no hope for this country. NONE!

Why is the military supporting this START? From what I have read it is flawed with it's omissions and not allowing the US to protect/defend itself against strategic attack.

Sounds like a no-brainer. Kill it or never act on it.

Obama and Clinton share fatal flaws ... national security is a weak point in heir abilities.

Why are the Republicans letting them get away with all this?

Unfortunately... the 67 votes he has lined up is 7 more than he needs to shut down a filibuster with a clouster vote.

We need to go after all the fence-straddlers they think they have lined up, and wake them up...or better still ...tell them the T-Party does not approve of leaving us defenseless with Russia limiting our defenses.

RINOs who mindlessly back the START treaty like Richard Lugar need to either retire...or have an immediate heart attack.

Why are the Republicans letting them get away with all this?

Because they have not any unity on this....there are at least 9 or more GOP senators on the wrong side.

Mark Kirk has already been sworn in as Illinois Senator, so the current split is Dem 58 - GOP 42. The Dems need to get 9 Republicans to break ranks in order to pass START before the other new Senators are sworn in next month. If there are 9 GOP Senators willing to back Obama’s sell-out to the Russians, then the Tea Party still has a lot of work to do in the next two election cycles.

Who are the potential RATS?

So far I’ve seen the names of Arizona Senators Kyl and McCain, Maine Senators Snowe, Collins, Tennessee Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker, Mark Kirk (Illinois), George Voinovich (outgoing Ohio), and Lindsay Gramnesty (South Carolina). Why do conservative states keep electing RINOs?

Because they are virtually the same scum, bought & paid for by the ruling elites & also they can get away with it & stick it to you with no repercussions.

America will long be finished before 2012. Even by then the voter fraud and the buying of millions of voters will mean the end of the Republicans of ever seeing the light.

Republican Foreign Policy Realists support the treaty and Republican NeoCons are against.

Obama has had many well known Republican Realists publicly supporting the treaty: Kissinger, Lugar, GHW Bush, Bob Gates, Brent Scowcroft, James Baker, George Schultz, Condi Rice, etc.

Corker and Isackson are realists who support the treaty but Corker wants to know how much money will be spent at Oak Ridge Natl Lab and Isackson wants to know how much money will be spent at Savannah River Natl Lab.
