Immigrants who are in Frederick County illegally will not be welcomed by the new board of commissioners.
And barring a significant change in federal policy, most members of the all-Republican board said they will work locally to curb illegal immigration.
"Illegal is illegal," said commissioners President Blaine Young in a recent interview. "I'll do what I can to make it not a friendly county that is advantageous for them to come to."
So far, that means continuing to support an agreement with federal immigration authorities to allow trained Frederick County Sheriff's Office deputies and correctional officers to enforce some parts of federal immigration law.
Community advocate Irene Packer-Halsey said she had hoped the new board was open to dialogue. Now she is concerned the environment in Frederick for Latinos and other immigrant communities will be more difficult.
Packer-Halsey is the board chairwoman of Latinos Unidos de Frederick, an advocacy group working to provide public awareness about the local Latino community and advise people of their rights.
"Our first course of action is to educate, integrate, dialogue with the commissioners, to speak up with a voice that says it's not black and white and there's more than one way to look at this issue," Packer-Halsey said.

More Hispano-Racist nonsense.
Kudos to Frederick County for getting tough on Illegal Aliens. If enough communities start taking action on Illegal Aliens...the Hispano-Racists and the other hate groups will not have enough time or money to challenge every community

Holders next target...
No doubt since , Sebastian Amar, a staff attorney at immigrant advocacy group CASA de Maryland, said the 287(g) is involved.Futher he states,”You just can’t ask local law enforcement to do a job they’re not trained to do,” I thought they were trained to enforce the law.How much training do you really need to arrest somebody illegally here ?
Lets see what OWEmalley has to say about this.
Owe’Malley will have the entire Board of Commissioners fired, and then he’ll raise taxes to pay for it.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
Frederick County, Maryland, is also known locally as “Fredneck.” Which is an unkind way of saying that there are a lot of black and white native-born Americans there who use their hands and their backs to earn a living and don’t appreciate losing their jobs to illegals. They’re not people who have the option of taking some high-ranking federal job or going to work for a think tank or accepting an appointment to teach graduate seminars at Georgetown University; a lot of them are just good Americans who want to work to make those truck payments. Some of them are sheetrockers or carpenters or masons who saw their livelihoods go away because those jobs were taken by illegals. I applaud the Republicans in the county commission for protecting their constituency.
Agreed. Now, if only Perry would grow a pair.
