St. Paul, Minn. Minnesota 5th District Congressman Keith Ellison said Thursday that Democratic lawmakers "need to create a real crisis" to force Republicans to renegotiate the tax cut compromise.
House Democrats voted Thursday to reject the tax cut deal between the White House and Congressional Republicans.
The compromise would extend Bush-era tax cuts for all Americans, including the wealthy. It also would renew benefits for the long-term unemployed, a measure President Obama had pushed for to prevent about 2 million Americans from losing benefits in the coming weeks. Republicans had opposed extending unemployment benefits.
Ellison, who was recently elected co-chair of the Progressive caucus in the House, voted against the compromise.
"I think that we need to create a real crisis here so that the Republicans will have to answer for denying Americans unemployment benefits on the eve of the Christmas holiday," Ellison said. "We let them off the hook, in my opinion."

This is, in fact, sedition under the Constitution.
Scary to think that Glenn Beck is right about what the left has planned to take over the country.
We have contacted our two senators to urge them to vote NO on this tax *deal.* It makes much more sense to wait until January and go for permanent tax status (as per the Bush tax cuts), with NO additional SPENDING attached to it.
They already did create a huge crisis. It happened on 11/4/08.
5th District Minnesota.
Consider the source "Minn. Public Radio" (NPR), and the cretin is Co-Chair of the Progressive Caucus.
I will always believe that a crisis was planned to occur while Obama was in Indonesia with a whole exile administration and a small navy, and that it was supposed to involve an American city gone up in smoke.
And that Mr. Ellison and the rest of the muslims and progressives were in on it.
Aaaaaahhhhhh! What happened to the idea that success means Preventing Crisis? Democrats are Delusional. I mean the other day the way they were talking about the GOP holding hostages, I really thought there might be some folks bound, gagged and hidden in the Capitol building. They need medication to bring them back to reality. There are no hostages, there is no need to create crises, they have to send illegals home and they need to stop spending on agendas which are not the responsibility of the government.
Why do you believe that?
"We are Giving Away"!?? You have to own something to give it away. You are stealing you slime ball.
Also, read David Horowitz, Jonah Goldberg, and Stanley Kurtz. Read from the original sources. Glenn does a good job but it goes way beyond what he talks about on his show. The barbarians are inside the gates already.
“Scary to think that Glenn Beck is right about what the left has planned to take over the country.”
You know, I can’t stand his show, but I’ve found it difficult to disagree with most of what he says. It might be “bringer of bad news” effect going on.
bingo
Let me see if I can follow the reasoning of this Rhodes scholar.
The Democrats create a crisis so that unemployment benefits cannot be extended. The Republicans will have to answer to the public for that. Wow. What a genius!!
I can see his point, however. The unemployment benefits are of no matter to him since no one in his district ever worked long enough to qualify for them in the first place.
Sworn in on the Koran.
Guess he got reelected?
The stuff we thought was nutcase talking points a few years back is actually coming to pass. We live in interesting times...
Yep, they are. I said that in Nov/08 here on FR and people poo-pooed me. Instead, everyone has spent 22 months telling me all I needed to do was fax, call, email my congresspeople. For 2 years conservatives have been satisfied to use the same old tactics in a world where ALL things changed on 11/4/08. (And yes...I said “satisfied” because faxing, calling & even showing up on the mall in D.C. in the face of what we’ve been up against is as much “resistance” as Americans are apparently willing to put up.)
