Payout for anti-gay preacher over arrest: Landmark ruling in Christian's battle for free speech
The Daily Mail ^ | 10th December 2010 | Steve Doughty

Police have been ordered to pay compensation to a Christian street preacher who was hauled off in handcuffs for saying that gays will go to hell.

A judge condemned the arrest of Anthony Rollins, who quoted the King James Bible on the subject of the ‘effeminate’ as he preached in Birmingham.

Mr Rollins was handcuffed and then held in a cell for nearly four hours after a passer-by dialled 999 and complained that his language was ‘hugely offensive’.

The ruling – which ended with West Midlands police ordered to pay more than £4,000 in damages to the 45-year-old preacher – appears to set a new landmark in the battle between the gay lobby and Christians who want to say in public that homosexual sex is wrong.

The reason a person passing by might think his statements were “hugely offensive” is because they’re true and deep in their heart people know it.

All of us are guilty, but when you say a sin is not a sin, I think that’s a whole different duck.

Thanks for the article.

I wonder what would have happened to Ezekiel or Jeremiah if they were here today.

“I wonder what would have happened to Ezekiel or Jeremiah if they were here today.”

Oh, my ... Jeremiah here today? What a thought.

I don’t have a problem with the preacher calling a sin a sin, but I do have a problem with him condemning them to hell. The preacher has no idea what state someone’s salvation is; perhaps they’re saved and, like the rest of us Christians, struggle with the enemy in our own customized way.

Jeremiah 1:

V.5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

A powerful argument against abortion, if you are a believer that is.

The preacher wasn’t “condemning them to hell”, he was telling them what the Bible says about homosexuality and where they would go if they didn’t repent.

The Bible does condemn unrepentant sinners to hell, and it calls homosexuality, amongst other things, an abomination.

AMEN!!

We are to love the sinner and hate the sin. We should try to reach them as brothers and sisters and not look down on them. But we must maintain the truth, as taught by the Bible.

And people who support their lifestyle fail to get this part in Romans

32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

So even if you don’t do homosexuality but support them you will suffer the same consequences.

The Judge it seems made the only right decision—sadly the message intended has already been sent— and how many Preachers will be reluctant to do as commanded by God because of the actions of this arrest?

Good points. hmmmmmmm... What if he said “fornicators are going to hell”, or “Liars are going to hell”

Those are true statements, and we’re all guilty and we all need Christ. So I think what I wouldn’t have done is single out a particular group? There is so much that is unknown, how he surrounded it.

But whether or not he phrased it just right, I might not agree with him but I agree that he has the right to say it. This censorship of the right is ridiculous. And how we’re all supposed to say “values” matter instead of “morals” matter is upside down as well.

Thanks for clarifying my thoughts. I agree with you—we don’t know how he phrased his sermon and it looks like his accuser was a stooge with an axe to grind.

I think homosexuals are singled out because they are the ones with a polotical agenda to force not just tolerance but acceptance of their perversion as “normal” in society, even to the point of propagandizing other people’s children in school against the will of the parents and attempting to stifle the free speech of opponents. As yet, there is no broad political movement to force the acceptance of murder (barring that of unborn humans) or theft(barring theft by “wealth redistribution”) or bestiality (but don’t worry, that can’t be long in appearing).

aargh, I am corrected again. You are so right.

And what also really gets me is the gay movement gains SO MUCH traction because the topic matter is so...it’s hard to even focus on the subject matter. Who wants to focus on gay acts? But we better because if we don’t they’re teaching our kids to practice them.

People will argue with me vehemently about that, but it’s all over the news. Without the objection of parents, they even try to teach fisting. So they stop for a while and everyone says it never happened.

Keeping watch is hard. I’m sure we would all rather be enjoying life. But our kids are getting HAMMERED with liberal left progressive garbage. My youngest just graduated and I’m devestated because I’m just now getting a clue about how much they bought into it.
