It’s no secret that she’s a Ryan fan for starters, but as far as I know, this is the first time she’s explicitly endorsed his roadmap as her preferred blueprint for entitlement reform. Which, I think, is a big deal: Ryan’s problem all along has been that, for all the positive press he gets, he can’t get the Republican leadership to talk seriously about entitlements for fear that doing so will scare off seniors and other prized constituencies. (That’s why I was surprised by his no vote on the Deficit Commission; it would have been a good way to keep the conversation going.) Palin’s op-ed alone won’t force McConnell and Boehner to get serious, but it will give new currency to Ryan’s plan and to the project of long-term fiscal solvency generally among tea partiers and the conservative base, and they can conceivably force McConnell and Boehner to get serious. That was the whole point of this post from a few weeks ago, in fact — that there’s only one faction in American politics right now willing and able to exert pressure on Congress to deal with this overarching problem. And since she’s uniquely positioned to bring things to the attention of that faction — and, if she runs, to inject this subject into primary debates — this piece is all to the good.
The commission’s recommendations are a disappointment....... We need a better plan to build on these conclusions with common-sense reforms to tackle our long-term funding crisis in a sustainable way.
....In my view, a better plan is the Roadmap for America’s Future produced by Rep. Paul Ryan (R., Wisc.). The Roadmap offers a reliable path to long-term solvency for our entitlement programs, and it does so by encouraging personal responsibility and independence.

Two obvious exit questions here. One: Does this mean a Palin/Ryan ticket is officially on the table? And two: If she’s nominated, what’s going to happen to the all-important senior vote in the general election once Democrats start clubbing her over the head with this? I admire her guts in backing it, but it’s not a pure asset for a candidacy. Just ask McConnell and Boehner.
A VAT is a disaster. Sounds like Ryan understands this now, as smarter people have explained that to him.
It’s a roadmap....it’s not perfect but alot of things in their gives people options and flexibility, but it is definitely better than the Presidents commission plan which does nothing to cut the government

Mr A-pundit, there is NO Republican "leadership." That's the whole point; that is the raison d'etre for the Tea Party. A leader is someone who makes the hard choices. Who puts themselves on the line. Who says what needs to be said and lets the chips fall.
That is why Karl Rove is a joke. That is why the Senators in general are a joke. AND if some number of politicians don't come forth, then what will happen is exactly what did happen in say the French Revolution, so many feckless politicians and the pusillanimous citizens who vote for them will succumb to the despotism that they all so hollowly decry.
Let us make it abundantly clear, the "Republican" gains of this election cycle were totally reactionary, a definite citizen reaction against the bigotry and tyrrany of the now blatantly leftist Democrats, but that is no guarantee whatsoever that "Republicans" have the courage or "leadership" to restore the values which made the United States great and unique, the dependence on the citizen assuming responsibility for his own decisions and his own moral behavior.
Truly truly sad when a few women are the only vestige of self honesty and courage remaining in the society. Sick!

I appreciate what you wrote and agree with your comment about our parents generation (and us) having to bite the bullet and accept that we cannot saddle our children/grandchildren with our debts.
We can argue about what happened and how we were ripped off. Many on this website say openly that they are “entitled” because the government took their money as taxation despite the fact that the politicians they elected spent the money.
In an ideal world, the majority would admit and acknowledge that the world has changed but I don’t see it. Half our country is firmly on the government teat. The other half expects (rightly but impossibly so) the return on the confiscation of their wealth earned over a lifetime in the form of social security/medicare. It’s impossible.
The system will collapse and our nation is going to change. The half that collects money from the rest of us through the government will be angry. The half that paid will be angry. Everyone is going to be angry except the anarchist.
Sorry I sound so pessimistic. God Bless you for saying the truth and your willingness to do what is right. However, as we sit and discuss this our nations leaders are adding more and more crap that costs billions of dollars to a bill to extend tax cuts. They don’t get it. Too many “conservatives” don’t get it. We know the left does not get it and frankly many of them want to collapse the system.
One wonders what good it does if you, me, and even 25% of our nation does the right thing. The system still collapses. My advice is to prepare as you see fit for whatever you think will happen.
But you know, if Palin said it was the way to go; I'd have to give it a another look. Palin always made fair and good decisions for the people of Alaska at every point in her political career up here. People trust her judgment.
I heard Don Young once say that he'd be glad to pay a little more in taxes just to get the IRS outta everyones lives; good judgment there too.
Where is Palin's roadmap?
Where is Mitt, Huckabee, Thune, Gingrich, and the rest of their plans? Oh ! That’s right
