Delta Air Lines survives yet another effort by unions to organize the largely nonunion company.
In results released this afternoon, ticket and gate agents overwhelmingly rejected a bid to be represented by the International Association of Machinists.
Delta says the vote was 8,746 to 3,638 against the union, and about 3,000 eligible employees didn't vote.
Last month, about 20,000 flight attendants and 13,000 fleet service workers such as baggage handlers rejected union representation in separate elections.
A prepared statement by the union today confirmed the outcome, but claimed "continued illegal interference in union elections has once again denied employees their legal right to elections free from intimidation." Appeals to the National Mediation Board are underway.
The airline's prepared statement said: "The will of the majority has spoken loud and clear: Delta employees want to preserve the special Delta relationship. It's time for everyone to respect our people's decision. They are more than ready to move forward."

IF I were ever to fly again, it would be with Delta.
IF I were ever to fly again, it would be with Delta.
Yes!
“IF I were ever to fly again, it would be with Delta.”
I’m with you. Did you know that ONLY the pilots at Delta are unionized - somehow the others never organized. Southwest is more unionized (although it is a weird union, as their workers still smile).
I like these votes, because it shows that the workers may be starting to figure this stuff out. I certainly hope so.
He’s crazy if he thinks the other side will respect the employees’ decision. A defining characteristic of the Left is to completely ignore and run around the will of the people when it doesn’t suit them.
Whether it’s abortion and gay marriage, or having multiple votes on joining the European Union, or union membership, the Left simply doesn’t care what people think.
I like Sun Country,too.
Last week my trip home was cancelled due to weather (I had to stay in a nearby hotel overnight, on the company dime) and my trip was rebooked for the following morning. The first leg was so late, due to incompetence on the ramp, I missed the second leg home and had to be rebooked yet again.
The Delta agents and system I dealt with were both helpful and competent. No agency is perfect, but Delta handled this situation just about as perfectly as possible, and better than any experience I have had with any other airline in such situations. (And I had pretty high frequent-flyer status with their partners.)
Delta's not perfect, but today they're the best I've seen yet.
Screw the unions. They are the poison that continues to plague the airline industry. Hooray for the people of Delta that voted against the unions!
Jet Blue is another target of all unions including the pilots union, ALPA. If they get on the property, it changes forever the unique business model that JB has worked so successfully.
A POX on ALPA and those JB pilots (many furloughed from other airlines ergo, ex ALPA pilots) pushing for unionization who are brainwashed into thinking that ALPA holds any sort of promise for the future!!!
My experience with Delta is that the are not the best I have seen.
But since the NWA acquisition Delta has changed tremendously and has moved to the front of my experience. Yah, US Scareways did a little better on the recent trip I took with them to Switzerland -- until they turned OFF the cabin air when we reached the gate on the trip home.
THAT is unforgivable in my book, and Alaska remains in my cr*p list for their love for denying passengers fresh air after landing to save a few pennies -- I sometimes book flights with connections just to avoid Alaska straight-throughs.
Alaska used to be great, but today I just wish they'd go out of business. "Jenn" and all that online garbage: please flush it; I never get the answers I want, all I see is an airline that has become indifferent to its customers in the interest of pinching pennies.
Keep pinching those pennies, Alaska Air -- where I can, I'm booking flights elsewhere because I know what I (don't) get from you.
When you go under, I won't be mourning your departure. Not any more.
People should have no choice about union membership.
If they want to work, they need to pay up.
Unions destroy everything they touch.
Like I said, that's exactly why we need card check!
The industries we've already unionized are barely making it. We have to force unionization on EVERYBODY.
They'll never choose it, so we must FORCE IT ON THEM.
Me too! Right after I pick up essentials at WalMart.
Delta’s pilots are members of one of the most strident unions around, the Air lIne Pilots Associaction (ALPA).
This union regularly backs democrat candidates. And they have a lot of money for it.
This is great news. My mother worked for Pan Am, and my brother worked for Eastern. Both airlines were put out of business by the Unions.
