As metro Atlanta's temperatures grow colder, the demand for heat is, well, heating up.
A day after hundreds of people queued up outside a Marietta community center to apply for assistance with heat and power bills, hopeful applicants began lining up again around midnight, waiting in the sub-freezing temperatures for the doors to open Thursday morning.
This time, however, officials let those in line come into the Mansour Center on Roswell Street an hour early at 7:30 and get relief from temperatures that dropped to 27 degrees.
Were freezing, said Lecher Eady, a Marietta mother who arrived at midnight seeking help with her bills. Our hands are cold, our feet are cold.
Eady, the mother of triplets in diapers, said she has been out of work since August.
Ive had three jobs this year, and Ive been laid off from all three, she said. Im grateful just to get any type of help theyll give me.

Just imagine how much home heating oil you could get by rendering Michael Moore.
Here's an idea: If you can't afford diapers, stop having kids.
They should call obama. As that woman said in ‘08 before the election - he can pay for all this from his “stash!”
On a sadder note, Mac Daddy is having some trouble deciding where is go on his 75th vacation at the tax payers expense.
Four airplanes, secret service, 200 guests and then trying to find someone willing to baby sit his pet.
The only one looking forward to him taking his 75th vacation is the dog, can’t stand either mac daddy or his wife.
Energy prices will go up as a direct result of actions taken by democrats.
LIHEAP will always be around.
Well, we’ve cut and split six cords of firewood to help us get through the winter.
If you’re out of a job, that should leave more time for such activities.
But I suppose that would be too much like work.
Also, if it gets cold at night, you could try snuggling under a quilt.
“Hundreds line up in the cold for free money”
Should be the title.
In my lower class neighborhood you can tell who’s recieving fuel and cooling assistance: they’ll even have their windows open. The less power they use the less assistance they get. The more they use rhe more they get.
AT 32 degrees it is freezing in the south, what about Colorado? Is it somewhere else on their thermometer. REALLY!

Georgia is also not used to extreme cold making people very uncomfortable below freezing.
Just thing about how long those lines will be with Cap and Trade’s higher costs.
Cant we just send Gen. Sherman down there again to raise the daytime temperature? :P
Anyway, if were allowed to get at our own resources, we would have plenty of cheap gas for heat. Buuuuut El pResident just doesn’t see that as an option for us peons.
“Eady said she is trying to start a nonprofit organization, Babies Need Diapers, that would provide diapers to low-income single mothers.”
how ‘bout an organization called “Babies Need Daddies” instead.
I imagine that there are people who could really use the help. But it is difficult to pick them out of the crowd because there are so many people scamming the system.
It all has to do with personal responsibility and shame for being on welfare... which was discarded years, ago.
Wait until the EPAs new carbon rules are in place and half the country will be unable to afford to heat their homes and even wood burning stoves and fireplaces will be banned.
Oh good grief! Just open the oven door and turn it on. That will take the chill out of the house. How long do they expect the cold to last? A few days? What a bunch of whiners.
Hell, I nearly froze last nite too. It got all the way down to 41 degrees here last nite.
