Fox News ^ | 12/2/10 | Phil Kerpen

Today is the Environmental Protection Agency’s 40th birthday. Thank you Richard Nixon: you left us a heck of a legacy on this one. The media is sure to tout the remarkable environmental progress in the United States over the past 40 years, and indeed we have never had cleaner air, cleaner water, or more plentiful wildlife. By any objective measure, environmental progress has been remarkable over the past 40 years, but it was also remarkable for decades before the creation of the EPA, and indeed every advanced economy has seen dramatic environmental improvement, regardless of its regulatory model.

Along with the EPA, the other agency that needs to be terminated immediately is OSHA. Both of these are business killers and can be blamed for the persistent unemployment in our country.

Isn't it ironic that communist China is increasingly turning more pro-business than us? They don't have the strangling, stupid regulations that we have with these useless government bureaucracies.

Speaker Boehner and the new Republican House can end this EPA nightmare by cutting off its funding. No money = no more EPA problem.

Actually, they did some good at one point, but like many things, have lived beyond it.

I had a friend who used to joke that, since no government agency dies, we should create an agency whose job is to kill three government agencies. But since it, too, can’t die, it would then wallow on over the years slowly killing other agencies here and there. Think of it as restoring a predator base in the population.

It is also worthless, unnecessary and a total waste of our money.

The EPA is obsolete. We have cleaned up all we can so the agency perpetuates itself in setting unachievable goals for industry and business, then being punitive when they fail.

How many industries and jobs are we going to import before we catch on the this scam?

They are the ones responsible for the retarded safety rules at our construction sites. People have to wear silly orange or yellow vests and get penciled for stupid little things by a ‘safety’ man. Meanwhile they want them to do the dangerous stuff anyway. They think it is OK if they get killed as long as they have on the ‘safety vest’.

An agency that needs to be drummed out of existence.

The new Congress needs to slam the living daylights out of ALL regulatory agencies that issue new rules affecting all of us.

Congress passes laws. Got that. But now regulatory agencies can pass pseudo-laws that have the same big, nasty teeth as real laws ... and that is wrong. These bureaucrats are not accountable.

The EPA is out of control and needs to be sharply restricted.

But regrettably we cannot do without some sort of EPA, because there are common air and water resources that cannot be privatized, and need to be managed for the public good.

The EPA should be restricted and downsized into a subsidiary of the Department of Interior, but not abolished.

The FDA should be abolished, because all of its functions can be better performed by the private marketplace.
