Union Drops Health Coverage for Workers’ Children
WSJ ^

One of the largest union-administered health-insurance funds in New York is dropping coverage for the children of more than 30,000 low-wage home attendants, union officials said. The union blamed financial problems it said were caused by the state’s health department and new national health-insurance requirements.

The fund is administered by 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, an affiliate of the Service Employees International Union. Union officials said the state compelled the fund to start buying coverage from a third party, which increased premiums by 60%. State health officials denied forcing the union fund to make the switch, saying the fund had been struggling financially even before the switch to third-party coverage.

Bit by bit, all of the insurance possibilities will fail or be taken away. Eventually, a single payer plan from the federal government will be the only possibility.

It's always been the plan.

It’s strange how these 30,000 jugheads are willing to pay union dues to the SEIU but aren’t willing to pay for healthcare for their own kids. I guess they have a thing for rich union bosses.

The members shouldn’t worry as the SEIU will still have untold millions to give to the democrats in ‘12. In the union world, money for democrats is way more important than money for insurance.

Not strange. Leftists have NEVER cared about their kids.

These things need to have their kids taken away from them. Then they need to be exterminated like the vermin they are.

Hey, that’s life in the big city. There are Democrat campaigns that need to be funded. Your children don’t get the health benefits that you paid for? Too bad, suck it up.

If I’m not mistaken, they have to pay. Back in 71 I drove for one of the large sodie pop companies in Niles, IL, just outside Chicago. Big ol’ red trucks. Where ever you live you’ve seen them. Anyway I didn’t have a choice in the matter. I had to join the Teamsters if I wanted the job. At least in Northern IL at that time (and probably still is) if it was a union shop you didn’t have a choice. Maybe someone from that neck of the woods can clarify. I left there in 74 and never looked back.

This is what I found about 1199 SEIU East, “... 350,000 members in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland and Washington D.C....

Interesting that the 30,000 low wage home attendants of this union are losing their kids’ coverage. If every union member paid 43 bucks a year [$3.59 per month] that would cover the 15 million short-fall. Oh, and they also did a special fund raising among their members to raise and donate 1 million to Haiti emergency relief.

Just another manipulation to get health care into the gov’s hands.
