Rappers rally against gun violence, the Toronto Sun reports.
With so many young black males being shot to death on our streets, local hip-hop artists have decided to join forces in the hopes of stopping the bloodshed.
The rappers, who are going to hold a press conference Friday, plan to stop using guns in their music and theyll urge other artists from their genre to do the same in an effort to convince the youth who listen to their music to stay away from firearms.
Left unsaid is whether the artists will also caution their patrons against the choices and behaviors that practically guarantee perpetuating crime, violence, dependency and failure to future generations. Not to mention the seriously skewed priorities and horizons of anyone who relies on rap for life guidance...
This is dramatically illustrated in the Portland Tribunes account of the racial divide on Mayor Sam Adams gun plan:
According to the presentation, African- Americans, who make up 6.5 percent of Portlands population, account for 45.5 percent of those arrested for aggravated assault with a gun and attempted murder with a gun. Black Portlanders also account for 40.8 percent of the victims of such crimes.
These are uncomfortable truths, but we ignore them at our peril. We can't neglect looking at race--not as a cause of violent crime, but as an indicator of populations most directly affected by and responsive to a continuing history of Liberty-eroding government policies.
I am an Anti-rap gunner.
there is no moderate rap as far as I am concerned and these cretins need to be tripped, pied in the face, insulted, and pee’d upon at every turn.
Alas, these statistics are pretty much par for the course. Portland is nothing special in this regard.
I thought Michael Moore said there was no gun violence in Canada.
It helps if there is a link posted.
Where’s the link?
While a comparison to ‘A Clockwork Orange’, or “brainwashing” comes to mind, it is not entirely ridiculous to consider whether anti-aggression therapy is a violation of human rights.
This idea first came up during the War on Terror, that the CIA could set up “mass production anti-aggression” centers for Jihadis. Importantly, these would *not* be used to “corrupt their minds”, nor would it make them no longer want to be Muslims, or even to make them our friends.
Instead it would have a very narrow, and focused, purpose. It would train them so that they would no longer have the *motivation* to do just one thing: to aggressively attack innocent people. They would just refuse to do that.
There is no human right, of any sort, that allows people to attack innocent people, for *any* reason.
Such people put through this training would still be able to defend themselves if attacked. They could even fight against soldiers and police in their own and other countries. But they would not *want* to attack non-combatants: medical people, the elderly, women and children. Nor could they be inspired to do so by enthusiastic and murderous leaders.
By comparison, in Saudi Arabia, the government has an official program that when it captures a Jihadi, it gives them counseling with a senior religious figure, who argues to *persuade* them, using the writings of Islam, that they should stop being a terrorist.
This is even less intrusive than that. It doesn’t even try to stop them from being a terrorist, just not to murder innocent people. To fight soldiers and police if they must, but to no longer torture and butcher the harmless. To reject justifications and rationalizations for that.
Now I wrote all that to put into context what America should consider doing with hyper aggressive gang members.
Why not give them this type anti-aggression therapy, but tailored to their situation?
In the US, because of our ongoing violent lawfare conducted by groups like the ACLU, such a program would have to be conducted in secret.
Targeting hardcore gang members who are both confirmed criminals and willing to cynically evade some punishment for participating in a faux-liberal “rehabilitation program”, they would sign releases that would permit “off site” therapy.
In their case, I think the bottom line is that “there is no civil right to belong to a criminal gang.”
And they just wouldn’t want to anymore. Not righteous rejection, just apathy and indifference to what other gang members wanted to do, or even to associate with them. To have thoughts that their gang friends are boring and stupid.
Gangs enforce their membership, so have learned how to deal with those who try and quit outright, but they have no ability to confront indifference and sloth from within. Even a few such people could suck most of the life out of a gang.
You’d pee on Will Smith for gettin’ jiggy with it? There are a lot of rappers out there who eschew violence, many who don’t even curse.
dont care....it is all just so much crap....
now if it were music that would be different, but it has NOTHING going for it...
Comfy in your ignorance? Or you’re telling me you’ve listened to all the various types of hip-hop and dismissed every single one?
Call it music or not, that hardly makes it less important. I’m not a fan of rock or country, but I won’t say it has nothing going for it.
havent listened to anything made after the mid to late ‘70s...that is my choice and not an appology.
I like blues, rock, big band, older country(the new stuff is fluff/pop crap), bluegrass, classical, and WW2 and older jazz, soul/motown, doowap.
I refuse to listen to beebop jazz, rap and other hate related, and/or discordant forms of what is sometimes called music.
“havent listened to anything made after the mid to late 70s...that is my choice and not an appology.”
You should have just said that first...why even comment if you don’t know what you’re talking about.
According to figures given in the Almanac suicide is 50 percent more than deaths from murder. It’s true in many other countries also, human beings have an annoying tendency to do away with themselves. Ignore this and you can use the crimes figures to ban the posession of gum drops if you’re so inclined.
I know what they say....I hear the crap....cant help to hear it when some stupid wigger with his hat on crooked is next to you in his car with the friggin thing blaring through subwoofers...
no I do not INTENTIONALLY (generally) listed to anything made after the 1970’s(I stopped listening to new rock when it went whiney like with the grunge crud of the late 80’s)....what is foisted upon me by buttwipes is another story....
