It implies that hetero is the norm and amounts to discrimination against the norm. If he is to be groped in public, I think the traveller ought to be able to specify the gender of the groper.
And another thing - the same-sex rule is a form of profiling. If we can use profiling to determine the appropriate gender of the groper, why not use it to identify higher-risk passengers. After all, that’s what this mess is all about.
