The reason they built it was purely symbolic: that whatever occurred beneath that dome would be open to all the public and that the abuses that started with Herr Hitler all those years ago would never happen again.

But I could see the problem with security.

The security there is tight anyway. They let groups of about 20 into a “holding area”. Then you have to walk through detectors to get to the dome area(if memory serves me correctly). I think I remember 1 entrance and 1 exit to the dome.

Funny story, we were at a Weinachten Market the night before and my husband bought a smoked eel. It got on his gloves which he stuck in his pocket. While we were in the holding area, the smoked eel smell became very apparant and everyone was talking about a smell...!!!

It’s a rather stark, gloomy edifice, and by no means classical. If anyone wants to see real architecture in a seat of government they should check out the U.S. Capitol.

so if it happens I guess it will be like Kristallnacht and the Burning of the Reichstag all rolled into one?

Its pretty much on par with other European capitol buildings.

Our's is unique in its feel and appearance, IMO.

I'm aware of the symbolism, but it still defaced the edifice. Rather like the glass pyramids in the Louvre. .

Yeah sort of. Only the kicker is the first time the Germans did it to themselves. They went after Germans Jews who were Germans first, Jews second and they burned their own Reichstag down. This time it looks like it’s going to be done TO them(by the Muzzies). Man. How weird is that? History is THE ultimate karma.

I hope it does not happen. But if it does, the terrorists are picking on the worst possible target in Western Europe for this attack, IMO.

Thanks and noted, but:

thought to be the number one target...

Not if these terrorists watch the news.
