American Voters Could Deny Obama Reelection (Quinnipiac Poll)
Quiinepiac University Polling Institute ^ | November 22, 2010 | Quinnipiac University

Posted on 11/22/2010 10:25:12 AM PST by CharlesWayneCT

(Palin within striking distance of Obama in a non-Rasmussen Poll; also has statistically insignificant lead for Republican Primary):

"President Barack Obama does not deserve a second term, American voters say 49 - 43 percent, and he is in a statistical dead heat with possible Republican challengers Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. President Obama leads Sarah Palin 48 - 40 percent.

..

"The Democratic base remains squarely behind President Barack Obama when it comes to his re-election, but his weakness among independent voters at this point makes his 2012 election prospects uncertain," said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

..

In a mythical Republican primary Ms. Palin gets 19 percent, including 25 percent of GOP women, followed by Romney with 18 percent, Huckabee at 17 percent, Gingrich at 15 percent, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty at 6 percent and Daniels, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour and Sen. John Thune of South Dakota at 2 percent each.

Palin's biggest problem in this poll seems to be independents; The other tested front-running candidates all win the independent vote against Obama, while Palin loses. I summarize the "Obama Matchup" charts here, independents only:
Candidate For - Against Fav - Unfav
Palin 37 - 44 33 - 54
Huckabee 47 - 40 45 - 21
Voldemort 46 - 35 44 - 23
Interestingly, Sarah Palin is viewed less unfavorably by democrats (36-51) than by independents (33-54)

Hopefully, Sarah can find a way to reach out to independents without compromising principle, and without alienating her supporters.

This surprises me -- I'm not sure I believe it. However, whether true or not, I can say with some confidence that Sarah's very popular TV show will go a very long way toward letting Independents see that she is a fine, normal, pleasant, smart person. Independents, by definition, are not consumed by political ideology. If they can register Sarah as a "good person", then they will consider her views and may very well accept the concept that her ideas are worth pursuing.

Independents voted 2-1 for the republican candidate over the democrat in the last election.

They won’t change their mind in 2012. The republican candidate will get the indy vote no matter who it is.

If the independents don't like Barry today, they sure as shootin’ won't like him in ‘12.

I reviewed this poll early this morning. The things that stand out to me are:

1. Palin has edged out into the lead, although a slim one, after having placed 3rd in all the other polls.

2. Palin still lags Independents.

3. Obama still lags Independents.

“Interestingly, Sarah Palin is viewed less unfavorably by democrats (36-51) than by independents (33-54)”

This is interesting, yet not shocking. Democrats and Republicans pay attention to politics at a far greater rate than do Independents. Thus, Indies, are getting the full dose of Anti Palin slurs non stop in the common culture of news, entertainment etc.

The good news is that:

1. The negativity is at a saturation point vis a vis the media attacks...and Palin is still within striking distance.

2. Indies will come around as Palin gets the narrative back when she announces.

3. When the rubber hits the road (as evidenced in midterm elections) Independents and Undecideds (9%) are going to reject Obama.

i’ll take the chance that in the ballot box the independents will choose the devil they do not know to the one they don’t.

thes epolls show who the independents would like for the general election not who they will vote for given the choic eof Palin/Obama.

Palin needs 5pts swing and she has the POTUS. Oh yeah she is running. The brass ring is within reach after everything has been hammered at her she can win it all and only needs to convince 5% of the population she is not satan.

I know 2 people in this house who would vote for that ticket! n a more serious point I think Palin everyday s shattering the narrative that the MSM still tried to paint her with. She still has another year to tear it down even further.Somehow I think in the privacy of the voting booth many women will have a very hard time time voting for another man over seeing a women in the Whitehouse while they are still alive no matter their politics.Even my 69yo Mother asked me the other day what I thought about Sarah Palin. :)

Independents voted 2-1 for the republican candidate over the democrat in the last election.

And this is why I question the legitimacy of the poll results.

Well, the way I see it. Once Sarah wins the Republican nomination, the Independents will vote for her because they do not want a 2nd Obama administration.

Yea, GO Sarah GO!

As I keep saying, the Presidency is Hers to win or lose.

I am not a gambling man, but I will take any bets from anyone who thinks she will not be the next President.
