Move to cut NPR funding is defeated in House

House Democrats on Thursday shot down a G.O.P. attempt to roll back federal funding to NPR, a move that many Republicans have called for since the public radio network fired the analyst Juan Williams last month.

Republicans in the House tried to advance the defunding measure as part of their “YouCut” initiative, which allows the public to vote on which spending cuts the G.O.P. should pursue. But their push was blocked, 239 to 171, with only three Democrats voting with a united bloc of Republicans.

Even though it’s only symbolic, I like the attitude of the new congress. One day we will defund govt out of existence.. except for the barest of essentials.

NPR is toast, if not now, in January, and if not then with the first appropriations measure asked for by the Obama Regime.

You will see Obama decide to defund NPR ~ he likes his HVAC in the White House ~ he likes to fly Air Force One. He likes to plant plants and hold parties on the grounds. He enjoys Secret Service protection.

There are all sorts of things that can be done to persuade the craziest narcissist to go along to get along. Those things will be tried and they will succeed.

Once the Dem/lefty/media hive break out the Big Bird/Sesame Street card the Republicans will cave.

Yup. And they're simultaneously working to ram that net neutrality BS down our throats before January to muzzle Rush & Co. while they keep picking our pockets to fund their Stasi propaganda mouthpiece. Whether due to mental incapacity or premeditated pure evil, they're unfit to serve and govern.

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

The GOP ought to simply fire all of the NPR staff, replace them with conservative Republicans, and then jack up the funding. Let’s see if the Dems like it then.

That is what I expect from the Rats in congress. They need to protect their propaganda machine that is funded by you and me.

171,ALL, 100% of Republicans voting to defund NPR still not good enough for you all but you all give the democrats/marxists a pass.

I think you Republican bashers protest too much. I think you are democrats.

Similarly , 100% of Republican Senators voted against the democrats/marxists'government healthcare, dream act ,etc. still you all bash Republicans and Mconnel.

So far, I’m liking what I see. Let’s all give them a ringy dingy and let them all know that we are all watching, and we all like what we see. So, keep up the good work or .......

I hope there’s more people around here that remember that attempts in the ‘late 90’s’ to defund, CPB, NPR and NEH/NEA...

It was Republican Committee chairs that basically stopped the defunding - Hackney and Regula. It may be ‘old’ and ‘boring’ but might be worth the read:

http://www.upenn.edu/pnc/ptkoch.html

Scroll down past the news article graph and pick it up at:

“At the same time — July 1997 — efforts in the House to eliminate the NEH failed by a voice vote.”

The ‘newbies’ in Congress have to know what they may be up against when they come in January.

We could have eliminated that and so much more at that point in time and failed to do so.

One consideration that should never enter into a vote is this ‘sacred cow’ idea that because someone who ‘championed a cause’ is still around in their 90’s that somehow that justifies putting your brain on hold to vote for something that was unconstitutional to begin with.
