Surprise: Illegal immigrant student attends KSU lecture on threat of illegal immigration

KENNESAW - Illegal immigrant and Kennesaw State University student Jessica Colotl made a surprise appearance Tuesday at a lecture on the threat of illegal immigration given by conservative media personality Phil Kent.

Kent, the former press secretary to late U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond, is a regular on the "Georgia Gang" and spokesman for Americans for Immigration Control. He spoke of how illegal immigrants are a financial drain on the U.S. economy, how they factor into a rising crime rate with the spread of Latino gangs and how a do-nothing federal government over the last two decades continues to allow an open border that anyone can cross.

During the lecture, Colotl remained silent, but her friend, KSU sophomore and journalism major Alisen Redmond, 21, challenged Kent on his talking points, calling his statistics "flawed."

Redmond challenged Kent's statement about illegal immigrants flooding U.S. prisons, claiming that illegal immigrants in general have a lower crime rate than U.S. citizens because they're afraid of the consequences of deportation.

I always laugh when illegals claim they commit less crimes than the American population.

First, their very presence is a crime.

Second, one non-immigration related crime in one crimes too many.

Third, the hundreds of thousands of murders, rapes, robberies, hit and runs, identity thefts cost committed by illegals does billions of dollars of damage, cost thousands their lives, and bankrupts our state and local governments.

Americans are too wimpy to tolerate this nonsense and outright arrogance by these foreign criminals.

No foreign country would tolerate this if Americans were doing it.

Situations like these always piss me off. I feel the same way most people here feel about people who hop over the border illegally but it’s damn confusing when y’all also put their children in the same boat. Those who knowingly break the law like Jessica’s parents should be arrested and sent back but Jessica didn’t have a choice in the matter and treating her like she did is disingenuous to both her and anyone who has a clue as to what individual rights mean. From all what I’ve been hearing on the board, most people here think the children of illegal immigrants should stay with their parents, live their lives, and then go back to whatever country their parents came from (regardless if they even remember it) when they turn 18. Doesn’t make any freaking sense.

I watched the video at the link and heard her speak; culturally she’s American, no mistaking her for anything else. It isn’t crazy to think that a person raised in this country might actually want to stay in it, I sure as hell do and the sins of the parents can only be taken down so far. I don’t know, maybe I’m just not evil enough to send someone who may as well be the girl next door to a foreign country for the crime of trying to live her life when it’s her parents who are at fault.

What I do know is that if we had built the damn wall in the first place, fined employers who hire illegals, and deported the illegals as soon as they were caught, we wouldn’t even be having this discussion. Even if Jessica and her parents still slipped through the cracks it wouldn’t be a big deal, all we would end up with is another assimilated American living their life.

Kent called the 1982 Supreme Court decision mandating the K-12 education of illegals who are subject to deportation the "height of stupidity."

Those arguing against forcing Americans to pay for the education of illegals told the Supreme Court it would encourage more illegal immigration. I guess we can say the Supreme Court was WRONG.
