Macho Hatch-o: 'I'm A Lot Tougher' Than Robert Bennett
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

First came the Searchlight Brawler, Harry Reid. Now Orrin Hatch joins the ranks of the Senate tough guys . . .

Asked whether—like fellow Utah Senator Robert Bennett—he might be defeated in his bid to obtain the Republican nomination, Hatch bragged "I'm a lot tougher" than Bennett, and considerably more conservative to boot.

Hatch's macho moment came this morning during an interview with Chuck Todd on MSNBC's Daily Rundown. When Todd asked whether he intended to seek re-election in 2012, Hatch, to his credit, didn't mince words, saying he was definitely running, subject only to continuing to feel physically strong. But when Todd asked if Hatch might meet the same fate as Bennett at the Utah GOP nominating convention, Orrin flexed his muscles.

He was good when we needed him during the ‘80s (he saved Clarence Thomas from being “borked”) but I'm afraid he's a little past his prime.

Too conciliatory for the current war of ideas.

“I believe Bob Bennett should have been re-elected”....That pretty much blew Hatch’s conservative cover.

Yeh I remember when good ole Orrin was nodding his head like a bobble doll over the immigration bill and now he is a co-sponsor on S.510 the Food Safety Act. What a conservative!! Not. 2012 bye bye Orrin.

Hatch is a FAKE Conservative. He always TALKS a good game. Don’t be fooled by this pretender. He is “the establishment”.

This will be fun to watch. One slip up from Hatch and there will be a Tea Party bus rolling down I-15. Hatch will crap his pants.

I am starting to worry about Inohofe...

The closed airport landing of his Cessna 340 with him as PIC and sticking up for ear marks has me concerned...

“I am starting to worry about Inohofe...”

Ditto for him as well as several others.

Just as the public wakes up and starts to demand a move to the right, too many of the people that used to be “right” appear to be drifting towards the squishy middle.

It just makes the rock that has to be rolled up the hill bigger.

No matter how “tough” you are, it’s the same set of voters.

Hatch's conservative days are long gone.

Now he's the personification of a an entrenched, aging (77), DC elite hack, passing his time away espousing feel-good marxist social dictum like amnesty so he can buy his way into heaven at this late date.

So he's tougher, so what?

We'll just have to cook him a little longer.

So where are we on this guy?

I haven’t followed him for a few years but if I recall he was pretty conservative.

Has the worm turned?

I will follow him.

Thank for the hint and a starting point for my research.

I am itching to get rid of anyone who has been in the Senate far to long.
