There are some movies that have become American treasures that I feel nobody should try to improve on, just because they can. This movie is one of those treasures.

Can’t Hollywood come up with anything original?

Why remake a 70 year old classic?

I find the notion of a “Yellow Submarine” remake to be at least as horrific and unnecessary as a Wizard of Oz remake.

Next up, a remake of “Casablanca” and a re-paint of the Sistine Chapel.

If Disney is doing a remake of Wizard of Oz, watch for:

1) hidden Phallus symbolisms—probably the twister in Kansas

2) secret references to satanism —Oz

3) subtle metaphors for pedophilia—Scarecrow/Dorthy relationship

4) homosexual references—Wicked Witch of West’s army

5) Witchcraft Glorification—Glenda the Good Witch

6) Anti-Militarism—the cowardly lion

7) Ant-Capitalism—Munchkin land being a ‘little people’s paradise’

8) Anti-Christian- Dorthy will surely be fleeing from Auntie Em because Em is a ‘bitter clinger’

Ugh. I’m sure Zemeckis will make the movie visually stunning (he is a ‘wiz’ at that), but why mess with such a revered classic?

This ranks right up there with the (thankfully) failed plan to remake Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, and the short-lived rumor that Sean Penn was looking to star as Rick in a remake of Casablanca.

They are remaking True Grit. Nothing is sacrosanct in Hollywood.

Hollywood needs to leave this movie(Wizard Of Oz)alone. It doesn’t need a remake. The Wizard Of Oz is an All time classic movie and there is nothing that any of these directors can do to make a better version.

The other replies aside, the movie was a extreme;y sanitized version of the book. If you’re going to do a remake do it accurate to the book the way it should have been done in the first place.

Was the original a classic? Sure. Was it done properly? With 19 writers on it? No.

In a decade or two computer power will rise to a level that will allow a rebuild of the original film. It could be rendered in 3D and widescreen. It could even be rendered as a virtual interactive environment. Sets could be altered while leaving the original actors untouched. I say hold off on remakes until they can be done properly.

Sometime around 2025 all that will be needed to create a film/3D/virtual environment will be a script and a super computer render farm...actors no longer required.

Remake the "Wizard of Oz"??? What is wrong with the original????

There is no imagination and even less talent left in Hollywood. I haven't been to the movies in years.

Robert ZEMECKIS is in early talks with Warner Bros to direct a live-action remake of ‘The Wizard of Oz’??

Cool! A tornado whisks a Delorian to Oz where the great & powerful Doc gets Dorothy back to 1985 Kansas from where Crispen Glover plays a neurotic Scarecrow - but is really just a nerdy farmhand who proclaims upon her return that “there is no place like home...and no blind spot when I would drive it, Biff!”.

They will over use special effects and drain all the color until it’s blue and black.

Oh, and don’t forget the homosexualization.
