3 officers, 6 others charged in drug, cigarettes, alcohol scheme (Prince George County, MD)

Nine people, including three Prince George's County police officers, were arrested Monday on charges involving drugs, guns and a large-scale scheme to distribute untaxed cigarettes and alcohol, according to federal officials.

Sources said the charges are connected to the recent arrest of Prince George's County Executive Jack B. Johnson, but it is unclear exactly how the cases are related. The arrests are part of a larger investigation of corruption in Prince George's.

The nine arrested Monday were taken into custody in the early morning hours during an operation that involved 150 law enforcement officers executing as many as a dozen search warrants.

The police officers are Sgt. Richard Delabrer, 45, of Laurel, Cpl. Chong Chin Kim, 42, of Beltsville and Sinisa Simic, 25, of Woodbridge.

According to an indictment filed in U.S. District Court in Maryland, Prince George's County liquor store owner Amrik Singh Melhi and others paid Delabrer and Kim to guard and secure the distribution of untaxed cigarettes and alcohol in Maryland and Virginia. They and four others are charged with conspiracy to commit extortion.

Simic is charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine and use of firearms in drug trafficking.

The indictment also seeks the forfeiture of $3.5 million, 25 properties, 13 vehicles and 84 bank accounts affiliated with the crimes.

"Police officers are given badges and guns to prevent crimes, but these police officers allegedly used them to commit crimes," said U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein. "The indictment charges that they crossed a bright line from catching criminals to conspiring with criminals."

Looks like the Jack Johnson case is indeed much bigger than he and his wife.

“Police officers are given badges and guns to prevent crimes..”

In my book, confiscatory taxation IS a crime. Maybe in their’s too...

If were some way we could throw MD out of the union, I would happily drive around it on my way up to NJ for the holidays.

More than HALF of ALL stolen cars in Maryland, are stolen in PG County.

Hey, if these folks had rubber pockets, they’d steal hot soup!

Not that hard to figure. I bought cigarettes in Maryland at something like $7.75 a pack. On my way home to Tennessee, I bought the same brand at $4.75 a pack just across the river in Virginia.

You don’t have to tell me. PG, Baltimore, Montgomery counties - the iron triangle of MD politics and corruption.

*sigh* the last one, from Woodbridge is Woodbridge, VA. The police and FBI had a hayday arresting that one this morning from the local news reports.

The small local media had a blast this morning, between this and the Westboroians.

I’m just glad I didn’t have to go anywhere this morning!

I am not defending Maryland at all (in fact I unfortunately live in it) but NEW JERSEY isn’t much better. New Jersey.... really?!! Just a thought.

NJ is definitely as corrupt as they come, but the fact they had enough sense to hire Christie and approve of his work has at least (temporarily) moved them onto my electoral purgatory list.

I will admit - I am a little biased here. The reason I have 2 leftist senators from my state (VA) is directly because of spillover from the socialist enclaves of DC and MD. They vote for democrats who siphon their wallets to the point they can’t afford to live there, settle in my state and vote for the same crooks who falsely portray themselves as “moderates” in order to get elected. Then, they vote with Obama down the line. Very frustrating.

Well, I don't know what you mean by "jacked up", but if you're asking if Prince Georges county is corrupt, yes it is. Very corrupt. From the top of county government all the way to the garbage collectors. Need I say, it's run totally by the Democrat Party.

PG County is where the SWAT team raided Mayor Cheye Calvo's home and killed his two labs:

Ironically, back in the 60's my folks moved our family from NJ to PG County, to escape the already-rampant corruption there (and bad schools).

I myself escaped PG in the 70's to Colorado (and never looked back). Unfortunately, we're being overrun with California & Upper-Midwest Democrats, who after laying waste to their own states are now doing the same to us.

This is getting more interesting every day. Looks like it’s unraveling in PG County. Maybe this is the beginning of sorting out the mess there. Somehow I doubt it, but one can only hope.

It’s gonna get more interesting. Though they wouldn’t say how this is connected to the Jackson 4-year investigation it seems to be a result of it. I’d bet a lot more people are going to be arrested, hopefully the FBI will make a dent in the corruption.
