MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- A sheriff in central Ohio says a 13-year-old girl who was missing with her mother, brother and a friend has been found bound and gagged in the basement of a man's home about 10 miles from her house.

Knox County Sheriff David Barber said Sunday that Sarah Maynard's mother, Tina Herrmann, is still missing, along with her 10-year-old brother, Kody, and her mother's 41-year-old friend Stephanie Sprang.

Does the girl know what happened to her family?

I’m glad she is OK and hope her brother is also, as well as Mom and friend. Very strange case.

I might be jumping the gun but i think the guy was keeping her as a little sex slave..
The rest of them will turn up in some shallow grave...

We coddle the criminals too much in this country.
When a criminal is caught red handed like in this case, with the underage girl tied up in his basement, there must be swift justice delivered, with punishment commensurate with crime.

I will bet any money this monster will be supported by tax payers for decades before meeting his maker.

Presumably the police thought to question the girl about whether she knew what has happened to the others.

There was a report on Fox earlier today that a body bag had been taken out of the house.

There is not a lot in the report (like how the police found her in the man's basement - what led them to get a warrant?), which means there is a whole of info not being released, which could mean the police hope to find the others alive. At least, I hope that's what is happening . . . .

From NEWS 7, Ashville:

SWAT TEAM FINDS GIRL:

Investigators in Mount Vernon, Ohio about 40 miles north of Columbus are working around the clock to find a missing family. They solved a big piece of the puzzle Sunday when police rescued one of the children and made an arrest.

A swat team stormed this Ohio home Sunday morning and found missing 13-year-old Sarah Maynard bound and gagged in the basement.

Police arrested 30-year-old Matthew Hoffman and charged him with kidnapping. Investigators are still looking for the girl’s 10-year-old brother Kody, her mother Tina Hermann and her mother’s friend Stephanie Sprang. All four disappeared Wednesday. Hermann was reporting missing when she didn’t show up for work at the local Dairy Queen.

Police found blood in her home. They located her pickup truck near the Keynon College campus Thursday night and locked-down the school. The investigation led police to Hoffman’s house about 10 miles away where they found Sarah.

The Knox County sheriff said Hoffman’s mother and step-father’s house is within walking distance from the victims’ home. He has a prior conviction for arson in Colorado and so far is not cooperating with investigators. One neighbor says Hoffman threatened her son.

Sarah Maynard is in good condition at the hospital and is talking to police. The community is helping with the search for the three still missing. Police expect there will be additional charges against Matthew Hoffman. He’s due in court for a bond hearing Monday.

The family and the one friend are probably dead. The kidnapper most likely kept the girl so he(most likely a he)could keep her around and rape her for a while before killing her. Terrible to say but the most likely scenario.

This newspaper article is from the Mount Vernon, Ohio, News on Saturday, Nov. 13, before the girl was found. I’m putting up because there is a lot of information here:

Just like the one here in California who murdered a 17 year old girl, then called her parents to taunt them! He’s been on death row for 30 years. His execution was just stayed because of (get this) “safety concerns” about the lethal drug cocktail that was going to be used to execute him! He should have been dispatched to Hell 28 years ago.

“We coddle the criminals too much in this country.”

There was a guy convicted in our suburb. He raped and killed a 24 year old girl.

He had been out of prison a few years. His previous stay was for the rape of a 14-year old. He spent an entire 3 years for the rape of a 14-year old!!!???

It is nuts. Now he faces 25 to 35 years, with the prosecution hoping for the stiffer sentence.

With the “justice” system the way it is today I almost don’t want a death penalty (which never seems to happen). Just give the guy life. And it should have obviously happened with the rape of the 14 year old. (The perp was 27 or something at that time, so none of those arguments about “what about a 17 year old and a 14-year old...”)

That is spooky. The mom doesn’t show up for work, the cops go to the house and see nothing amiss, and the pickup in the driveway. Comes back that evening, the lights are on, the truck in the drive.

The manager goes in the following day and lots of blood in the home, and the pickup is gone.

Sounds like the worst horror story one could ever think of.

God bless the souls of those people and the heart and mind of the surviving 13-year old girl that will live with this forever.

I hope that this demon is allowed to help them locate the bodies, and is then shot while trying to escape.

So, you realize that the deranged man was in the house with the four other people while the cops were looking inside from the outside!
We don’t know that but there’s a chance that it was.
So, how did he get the girl from the truck to his parents’ house and was she in the cellar while his parents were in the house?
And, there are the other three?
This has a In Cold Blood feeling about it.

When I was in college in the Washington DC area there was a case where a man had raped and killed a young girl on the campus of a private school. He was convicted and sent away. I don’t remembr the exact reason he was released - something stupid like over crowding - but he was released. Want to guess what he did? Went back to that same school and raped and killed another girl.

I have lived with the conviction since that day that we are wasting our money and resources on warehousing these types of criminals.
