This reminds me of when Southern Airways merged with North Central Airlines to form Republic (remember them?) An aviation lawyer of my acquaintance said that thinking you could put those two airlines together and get a quality product ‘was like thinking you could put two hookers in a sack, shake ‘em up, and come out with the Virgin Mary.’

Having been through a couple of these desperation mergers I know what you mean. It is amazing what otherwise fairly smart guys will talk themselves into when they are cornered.
