China's SAIC close to GM IPO stake buy-sources (ChiCom Motors)

General Motors Co [GM.UL] is in the final stage of talks to sell equity to long-time Chinese partner SAIC Motor Corp (600104.SS) in conjunction with its landmark initial public offering, two people familiar with the matter said.

The two government-funded automakers are currently finalizing how much of a stake SAIC would buy in the top U.S. automaker after discussions involving technology sharing and SAIC's ambitions to move beyond the China market, the sources said.

Any agreement between GM and SAIC would need Chinese government approval and could still fall apart, the sources cautioned.

One person familiar with the matter said previously that SAIC had initially reached out to GM to explore the prospect of taking a "single-digit" stake in GM. The size of SAIC's prospective investment was not known.

Two things: access to the US market, and possibly some technology they’re interested in.

“Two things: access to the US market, and possibly some technology they’re interested in.”

100% accurate.

Prediction: Chinese crap-mobiles will constitute 25% of US sales in 10 years for democrat party run GM.

Well, they still buy treasuries... why would you think they wouldn’t fall for this? :-)

You can bet if the ChiComs bought a majority stake, OR the House GOP decides to grow a pair and stop funding GM, the next step would be telling the UAW which Great Lake to jump in.

Note: Breaking the UAW control over GM is the ONLY option in order for it to survive.

Yet another reason never to buy GM vehicles ever again.

It does raise the interesting question of how the mercantilist commies will get along with the UAW.

Historically, the commies and the labor unions were associated like a hand in a glove. That historical relationship could change if the ChiComs make the deal.

Note to UAW - Your new masters don’t bow to American labour unions. Enjoy your jobs while you still have them.

Actually, the Chinese built cars will be very well built - Chinese labor is higher standard than UAW labor and they will be using the best of GM technology that we will be transferring to them.

It is not general knowledge, but GM has the best advanced automotive technology base in the world - GM just has had major problems getting it into the market in a timely fashion due to GM bureaucracy, UAW issues and government regulation burdens.

No worries. The Chinese will have no problems building brand new state of the art factories to get this technology into the market in Chinese produced products.

Our country and it's economic future is being sold out by the current leadership with no oversight.

If it was soooo important to the US economy to give GM billions of dollars of bailout money, how is it now good to sell our collective GM investment and it's treasure chest of next generation advanced technology and practical know how to our most serious economic rival for pennies on the dollar.

This is a bad deal for the American People. The government bought GM at an astronomical price and is now selling at rock bottom low prices.

This is a really bad deal both financially and from a strategic economic perspective.

The feds are the ultimate monopoly. They will force Ford out of business and the only cars sold in America will be Red Chinese owned GM.

I wonder though - do you think that the government safety nazis would carve out an exemption to their rules for a commie car like this?

Meaning, of course, we work for them.

It’s all part of the global government plan.

Like the sweetheart tax exemption deal GM got with the bailout, Obamy and the boys will do the same for whatever rules everyone else has to play by.
