Another bloody Republican Senate primary election season is taking shape for 2012, with potentially serious intra-party challenges percolating in close to a half-dozen states.
Polls indicate that at least two veteran GOP senators are highly vulnerable to challenges on their right flank Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch and Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe and there are rumblings about potential GOP bids against Nevada Sen. John Ensign, Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and Indiana Sen. Dick Lugar as well.
On the whole, the 2012 map looks extremely promising for the GOP. After posting a six-seat gain in 2010, Republicans are in a position to pick up even more seats in the 2012 cycle, with 21 Democratic senators up for re-election, including two Independents who caucus with them, compared to just 10 Republicans.

At least Snowe doesnt pretend to be conservative..that much Ill say for her. Throw em all out.
We in Pa are also going to get rid of mushmouth Bob Casey.
Good. We want these people to realize their jobs are on the line every time they get their arm twisted for a vote. In the past couple decades, these incumbents seemed to think they were some sort of House of Lords that could not be removed by the little people. This is exactly what we wanted...an electorate actually paying attention.
Hatch isn’t so much a RINO as a Beltway Buddy...you know, the kind who speaks and votes conservative but RARELY takes bold stands.
I do remember him taking a bold stand once—it was for Clarence Thomas’ nomination to the Supreme Court. He really took on then-Judiciary chairman Joe “Plugs” Biden and the witch hunt against Clarence.
Otherwise, he has been a quiet conservative.
Olympia is DEFINITELY a RINO. And Lugar is almost as big a RINO as Olympia. He reminds of Chuck the Smug Hagel.
That depends. Will the GOP begin the hard work, or will they do business as usual?
If I still lived in TX, I’d support anyone who opposed Kay Bailey Hutchinson, just because she LIED.
She promised to resign to seek the governorship. Since the polling never did favor her, she kept moving the bar on the date she intended to resign. On losing, she had not resigned and now still retains her Senate seat.
How can the constituents trust anyone who LIES to blatantly?
Get her out of there. Vote her out!!!!!
And now he is going to take your Social Security to pay for it.
We'll see how scared Lugar and Snowe really are when the gay lobby tries to cram the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" through the Senate next month.
Let’s see if rino Snowe will continue to oppose the DISCLOSE act which opens up donor lists and places onerous regulations on conservative grass roots groups, while allowing unions to skate. Others to watch will be her twin in ME, Snot Brown, Grahmnesty, and McLame.
Rino senator elect Kirk (IL) supports this because he wants to hassle and squash TP groups and any money they may get form big donors. Snowe probably feels the same way. But if she goes along with the Dems and unions, she will create an serious backlash from TP members that will want her defeated in the primary and will refuse to support her in the general.
John Cornyn is up in 2014 we should start now moving him either to the right or out. I email him a lot but only lately have I been getting an answer. Basically told him his support for Rhinos better stop or support for him would!!
It’s sad to see so many Benedict Arnold’s in office.
It is beyond me how people can betray their own country and people. What a stain on the Senate and their own lives these worthless scum are.
We know who most of them are and now is the time for the little people to warn them their time is up. Let them know they have not upheld their Constitutional responsibility and they are on the list.
Snowe, and her partner in crime, Susan Collins, need to go
We in Florida will work to get rid of that fox in sheep’s clothing Bill Nelson. Can’t stand the guy.
Hatch was always intimate friends with the Swimmer. He cannot be trusted.
For the record, I support primary challenges but we’re going to have to come up with a strategy to circumvent sore losers who lose their primaries and run anyway.
Hatch is pro-amnesty.
