I,as a common everyday Indian would like to make some points here. 1)We Indians want to have a very close relationship with the Americans.We want them to be like our cousins but this relationship has to be 'equal'.We want to be 'equal partners' instead of just 'military allies'.
2) Please stop telling us that "Pakistan is the biggest victim of terrorism and their government is trying hard to get rid of it." We will never take this argument. We are facing this menace from the 80s and the US woke up only after 9/11. Nobody in the US paid heed when we were screaming from the rooftop that "look,Pakistan is promoting terrorism and sooner or later ,the whole world is going to have to face the brunt." and the US said "ahhhh...these Indians...they like to make a mountain out of a molehill". Now we are saying "Please stop pumping in billions into pakistan 'cos this is giving steroid shots to the 'autonomous' pakistani army and this army has,at its core,has extreme islamic agenda. Promoting extremism is their policy.Terrorists are their 'assets' and they would not drop it". But like always the US is being very short sighted.
3)We are not stealing away your jobs. The total trade between India and the US is around $60 billion and it is in favour of US. The trade between US and China is around $500 billion, $250 billion in favour of China. Everything from a needle to a computer which is sold in US is 'made in china'. Wal mart, the biggest retail chain doesn't manufacture a single thing in the US. But instead of getting back your manufacturing jobs, you are going gaga over IT jobs which inturn increase productivity of american comapnies. The areas which are hit most severly by recession and unemployment are retail and construction but you are blaming the IT industry of India for that. Why do u forget that Indian companies are one of the major investors in the US.They have created jobs in the US.
4) And lastly, please change your attitude towards India. Yes, we are an over-whelmingly poor country with per capita income of around $3000(adjusted to PPP) but we are trying to move forward. No democracy on the face of earth has grown at the rate at which we are growing now. Please look at us as a future global power and treat us that way because we have 'long memories', we remember things and we will remember how we were treated by the US when we were coming out of our tatters towards our rightful place on the high table.
